Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 673

Reese reached out to grab Rupert's hand, offering a hasty explanation. "I didn't think anything like that. I was just worried you felt sick after drinking too much."

Rupert smoothly avoided her touch. He turned, strolled back into the room, and sank lazily into a chair. He placed a cigarette between his lips and lit it.

Through the swirling white smoke, his eyes narrowed as he stared at the bed.

"I just got drunk and came up to rest."

"Is... is there anything else?" Reese asked tentatively.

"No."

Hearing Rupert's answer, Reese let out a sigh of relief. Even Fay, who had shrunk back into the crowd, secretly let out a breath.

Her friend hadn't lied; the drug really was that potent.

Not only was the high utterly intoxicating, but waking up felt like a severe hangover. The memories would be fractured, making it impossible to distinguish reality from a dream.

In short, Rupert would forget everything that had happened.

This was the exact escape route Fay had prepared for herself. Even if Rupert suspected something was wrong, he wouldn't know where to begin investigating.

She just hadn't expected Sylvia to actually manage to slip away.

Unsure of her next move, Fay could only look to Kay, the mastermind behind the entire plot.

Surprisingly, Kay's face showed little anger. Instead, she instinctively checked her watch.

What was Kay waiting for?

Just as the thought crossed her mind, Kay stepped forward with a smile to ease the tension.

"Mr. Rupert, at the end of the day, Reese was just worried about you. Since it's all a misunderstanding, it's good that we've cleared the air."

"Let's all head back downstairs. Let's not disturb Reese and Mr. Rupert's private time."

The crowd immediately offered their respectful apologies to Rupert and prepared to exit the room.

But just as they reached the door, Kay's assistant suddenly ran in.

"Ms. Winslet, we need to sign a supplementary agreement for our recent collaboration with Mr. Sanford, but I can't reach him anywhere."

"Lester is missing too? Could he have drank too much as well? There are a lot of young people tonight, so it's normal if things got a bit rowdy. He probably went back to his room to rest. Let's go check on him."

Kay was suddenly playing the role of the exceptionally understanding elder.

But anyone paying close attention would notice she was deliberately steering the crowd toward Lester's room.
