Watching her walk away, Tristan sneered, "Did you honestly believe that because he protects you so fiercely, he loves you and wants to marry you?"

"No. A man can hold many women in his heart, but he will only ever have one wife."

"Even though he nearly died for you, he's still going to marry Reese. Because deep down, he knows you aren't worthy to be his wife."

Sylvia's hand froze over the doorknob.

Tristan chuckled darkly. "Why did you stop? Are you too terrified to face the truth?"

With that, he shot a look at the bodyguards standing by the door.

Whether Sylvia wanted to or not, they clamped a hand over her mouth and dragged her to the window of the adjacent ward.

Tristan nudged the door open just a crack, forcing Sylvia to look inside.

Rupert had clearly just woken up. Seeing Reese sobbing hysterically, he raised his hand and gently wiped away her tears.

"Stop crying."

"Promise me you'll never do this again, okay? You terrified me," Reese sobbed, grabbing his hand and pressing it tightly against her cheek.

Rupert looked at her and nodded. "Yeah."

Reese leaned forward, resting gently against his chest as she asked hesitantly, "Then what about the wedding..."

Rupert stared up at the ceiling, his voice heavy. "I promised I'd marry you, and I will. The wedding won't be postponed."

"But your injury..."

"I'm fine," Rupert said softly, attempting to soothe her.

Overjoyed, Reese buried her face in his chest, weeping with relief and excitement.

"I knew you cared about me."

Rupert patted her back, saying nothing.

Tristan quietly pulled the door shut, severing Sylvia's view.

He took a few steps back, thoroughly enjoying the ashen pallor of Sylvia's face.

"Rupert is the heir I raised. He knows the difference between the woman he marries and the woman he plays with."

"Let her go. If she still doesn't understand after seeing that, she's simply shameless."
