"Rise!" Shen Xian’s voice dripped with annoyance. How had they managed to uncover his identity so swiftly?
It was no surprise that Shi Ji and them recognized Shen Xian immediately, he was their Demon Emperor, after all. Their quick recognition stemmed from bitter experience.
In the past, their Emperor had a knack for mischief, often disguising himself as an ordinary demon or a nondescript creature to stir up chaos within the royal palace.
Whenever demons dared to challenge him, he would decisively defeat them and deliver his infamous line that left everyone fuming: "So weak! Time to replace the royal guards!"
Initially, none of them could fathom the identity of the audacious figure mocking them, but with time, they had learned to identify him. No matter the disguise, be it appearance or magical form, one thing was unmistakable: his enigmatic smile and nonchalant demeanor whenever he instigated mayhem.
Perhaps the most baffling aspect to them was his lackadaisical response to their queries about his antics; his reply never failed to leave them speechless: "Life can be dull, and I seek amusement."
"How dare you disrespect our Emperor? Do you wish to meet your end?" Yasha rushed forward, ready to pummel the demon guards, but Shi Ji intervened.
Oh, those poor demon guards. The moment they comprehended that the unremarkable man they had belittled was indeed their Emperor, their spirits left their bodies. They knelt there, frozen, as if their life force had been extinguished.
Shenlian Yingyue could hardly spare a thought for the others, her eyes drawn to a sight that made her heart clench, a figure forced to kneel before Shen Xian by Yasha, the cloaked demon.
Di Xiuyu??
Di Xiuyu maintained her composure, her graceful form still adorned in the elegant white hanfu that rendered her ethereal. Yet the fatigue that lingered beneath her eyes revealed the hardship she had endured during her journey to the Demon Realm. Now, kneeling there, she appeared delicate and vulnerable.
Shenlian Yingyue’s brows furrowed as she recalled Xiao Yun’s account of the Demon King Shi Ji’s audacious kidnapping of Di Xiuyu from Rainrealm Continent, which had thrown the entire realm into chaos.
She pondered the current state of the war between the human and demon races, her mind ablaze with uncertainty. Infernal Volcanic, Jade Orchid, Peridot Melody, and the Demon Generals had not yet been seen; it seemed they were still entrenched in battle with the humans in the Mortal Realm.
In her heart, she prayed that Xiang Liu, the formidable Nine-Headed Silver Serpent, would uncover the truth about Su Lanfei’s plight and ensure her safety. Simultaneously, she hoped that Huang Bai Xing was keeping a watchful eye over Huang Donghai, who was recuperating on a remote island, far removed from the bloodshed.
"Who is this?" Shen Xian finally focused his gaze on Di Xiuyu, who was forced to kneel before him.
Her head bowed, her expression was obscured, but all present understood that a proud fairy like her must be grappling with acute feelings of humiliation and resentment at being made to bow before the very demon responsible for her homeland’s devastation.
"Your Majesty, this woman possesses something of great interest to you," Shi Ji stated, breaking the tension.
"Oh? Who is she? Raise your head," Shen Xian said, his initial disinterest transforming into intrigue.
Di Xiuyu clenched her lips, drawing blood in an effort to suppress her fury. Overwhelmed by confusion, she slowly raised her head, exposing her delicate features to him. She couldn’t comprehend the reason behind her abduction. She knew better than to act rashly in the midst of demons.
