Everest's Guardian Hubby Watched Me Freeze My Ghost Knows Where He'll Burn novel Chapter 54

Chapter 13

The moment those words left my mouth, Sean’s eyes narrowed sharply, his pupils shrinking as if the shock had physically struck him. His expression twisted into one of disbelief, like he couldn’t quite process what he’d just heard.

“What the hell did you say?” he demanded, his voice rough and incredulous.

I kept my hand steady on the steering wheel, the cigarette still lightly pinched between my fingers, and calmly repeated myself. “I said we’re done.”

Without hesitation, he lunged forward, snatching the cigarette from my grasp and crushing it violently into the ashtray. The glowing ember hissed and then faded into nothingness.

“No fucking way,” he spat, anger flashing in his eyes. “Lanie, I’m telling you right now—I will never agree to this.”

“We’ve been together for seven years,” I said quietly, avoiding his gaze. “Are you seriously going to throw all of that away now?”

I reached into my bag and pulled out a neatly folded piece of paper, extending it toward him. “Sean, we had a baby.”

His body froze, every muscle tensing as if I’d knocked the wind out of him.

“But I got rid of it,” I added quickly, my voice barely above a whisper. “The day I found out Charlotte was pregnant with your second child.”

“That’s right,” I continued, my voice steady despite the storm inside me. “I knew. And I also knew you had a five-year-old son.”

Sean’s hand trembled as he took the medical report from me, his fingers shaking violently, as though that fragile sheet of paper was cutting deep into his throat. The air inside the car felt thick, almost suffocating, and I couldn’t bear to look at him any longer. I turned away, staring out at the vast, empty plains stretching endlessly beyond the window.

“You know what, Sean?” I said softly, my voice carrying a strange calmness. “I think this life suits me better.”

Finally, slowly, he lifted his head. But what I saw in his eyes wasn’t sadness. It was colder than that—something desperate, something raw and unhinged.

“Lanie,” he whispered, voice breaking, “I can’t even imagine waking up without you. I don’t know how I’d survive it.”

“Wait for me,” he begged.

Those three words hung in the air between us.

Then, without another glance, he pushed the car door open and walked away, just as abruptly as he had appeared.

His tall figure vanished into the swirling dust, until there was nothing left but the empty silence of the road.
