Every Mafia's Favorite Girl novel Chapter 138

Chapter 138: "Get You Out Of This"

Aren leaned close to the damp wall, one hand trailing along its rough surface as she moved through the darkness of the corridor.

Her entire body was still soaked from the icy water, and the frigid draft sweeping through the subterranean passage gnawed relentlessly at her skin.

Even so, neither the cold nor the exhaustion weighing down her limbs could compare to the anxiety tightening around her chest with every passing second.

Oscar was nowhere to be found.

By now, the estimated time for him to meet up with her had long since passed. She could no longer dismiss the possibility that something had gone terribly wrong.

Then, suddenly, she heard it.

"OVER MY DEAD BODY! YOU DON’T STEAL MY FUCKING COIN!"

Aren froze.

Her head snapped toward the direction of the distant roar.

The words reached her only as faint echoes, as though they had traveled through countless winding corridors before finding her. Yet there was no mistaking that voice — or the agony behind it.

’No... no way.’

’They got to Jordan before I did.’

Without another thought, she spun on her heel and sprinted into the darkness, racing toward the sound.

As she tore through the maze, more of Jordan’s agonized screams echoed through the underground corridors.

"Aaaaargh!"

"Haaaaargh!"

"HAAAAAARGH!"

Each cry sounded louder than the last, each one carrying enough pain to make Aren’s heart sink even lower.

She raced through the corridors like a silent shadow, forcing herself to keep every footfall as quiet as possible despite the desperate urgency driving her forward.

The maze, however, remained true to its name.

Every corridor flowed into another identical turn. Every passage looked exactly like the last, offering no clue whether she was drawing closer to Jordan or running farther away from him.

Then...

The screaming stopped.

The sudden silence left Aren unable to decide whether she should feel relieved or terrified.

After what felt like an eternity wandering the endless corridors, she rounded another corner and caught the sound of approaching footsteps, accompanied by several men’s voices.

She reacted instantly.

Pivoting on her heel, she slipped back into the corridor she had just exited and pressed herself flat against the wall, waiting patiently to see who was approaching.

The footsteps grew steadily louder.

So did the conversation.

Among the voices, one stood out immediately — the lazy drawl she had come to recognize all too well, now tinged with faint annoyance.

"Why are you lot still following me? I told you to spread out. What if Sofia or Rosalia see us together?"

One of the men answered quickly.

"Well... you’re basically the strongest one here. We’re just following you in case we run into the two Ladies."

Another chimed in.

"Mister Nazario, are you sure you don’t want to reconsider the offer?"

Whatever they had proposed seemed to irritate Nazario.

"Jeez, do you even hear how pathetic you sound?" he sighed. "Of course I ain’t getting on your boat. Now stop following me and go do it yourselves."

With that, Nazario turned and sauntered down the opposite corridor, leaving the four men standing in the darkness.

The moment he disappeared around the bend, the obedient expressions vanished from their faces.

"Tsk... can you believe that kid?" one muttered. "Only eighteen and already acting like he owns the bloody world."

Another spat onto the floor.

"See the way he looks down on us? Such an entitled little brat."

The third man was more cautious.

"Sshhhh. Lower your damn voice. Lady Sofia or Lady Rosalia might be nearby. We still don’t know where they are. Forget the brat and focus on the money."

The others nodded in agreement.

Together, the four men turned and began making their way deeper into the maze.

They had barely rounded the next corner when a petite figure exploded silently from the darkness.

Before the man at the front could even register what he was seeing, a slender leg whipped through the air with terrifying speed as it crashed straight into the side of his head.

Jordan regained consciousness when something hard and razor-sharp bit painfully into his skin.

A heartbeat later, he became aware of cold metal encasing his entire body.

Every instinct screamed at him to move, but the memory of what had happened before he blacked out came rushing back almost immediately.

With tremendous effort, he suppressed every reflex and forced himself to remain perfectly still as he realized he had been wrapped tightly inside something he couldn’t possibly escape through brute force alone.

’God, those fucking bastards.’

’They wrapped me in the goddamn wire mesh?’

’Who the fuck even came up with this idea? I’m gonna smash the shit out of that sick fucker.’

Forcing his fury under control, Jordan focused instead on listening.

Gradually, muffled voices drifted toward him from somewhere nearby.

His mind remained clouded by the lingering effects of the blows to his head, making the words sound distant and distorted, but he could still make out enough to follow the conversation.

"Oi, how long are we supposed to wait here? Aren’t we gonna go look for the coin at all?"

Another man scoffed. "You still think you’ve got a shot at finding the coin? You reckon you can beat Mister Nazario in the third round? Or the Marchetti Ladies? Dream on."

"But I’m telling you, mate," the first insisted. "I came across something that looked like where the coin might be."

The other three perked up instantly.

"What? You saw the coin?"

’It really could be a hatch leading to another chamber.’

’He said it was just outside this maze... then one left and one right.’

’If I somehow get out of this thing... I’ve gotta check it out.’
