Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 150

Chapter 150

Third Person’s POV

The fact that he’d spent half the night screaming at Seraphina over a literal dog only made the raging fire in his chest burn

hotter.

The sole culprit behind this entire disaster was Verda-that absolute, incurable idiot of a woman. 1

As Mortimer stood there boiling with a mix of fury and embarrassment, Wilmot twisted the knife one more time. “Oh, man. Slicing off your own dignity and forcing a make-believe cuckold fantasy onto your own head? That must be an incredible feeling.

Mortimer’s gorgeous face went completely black. The temperature in the corridor dropped straight to zero.

He turned his head, his gaze cutting into Wilmot with zero warmth left-only a vicious, venomous counterattack. “You seem pretty thrilled. Why? Did Trista finally agree not to void that holy bond contract of yours?”

The smirk on Wilmot’s face froze instantly.

His expression turned charcoal-black at a speed visible to the naked eye. The veins in his forehead bulged as he spit the words through his clenched teeth. “You just have to go for mutually assured destruction, don’t you?”

He glared at Mortimer, completely incapable of laughing now.

Just as the explosive tension between the two Alphas was about to set the hallway on fire, the exam room door clicked open.

Mortimer saw Dr. Smith walking out, cradling Dash in his arms. He used his long legs to eat up the distance, stepping forward

immediately.

“Are we keeping Dash here at the clinic for observation, or are you taking him home?” Dr. Smith asked, looking directly at

Seraphina.

“I’m taking him back,” Seraphina said, her eyes turning soft as she looked at the weak puppy. “He’s been through a massive trauma tonight. I want to watch over him all night.”

“That works. Just make sure he doesn’t bump the injury when he moves around, and absolutely no running.”

“Understood. Thank you so much, Dr. Smith.”

Seraphina offered a breathless, grateful thank you. She held out her pale, slender arms, preparing to scoop Dash out of the vet’s

grip.

But before her fingertips could even touch his fur, a pair of large, heavy, vein-lined arms shot straight across her field of vision, aggressively cutting her off.

“I’ve got him,” Mortimer said. Without giving her a choice, he securely took the heavy weight of Dash into his own chest.

Seraphina’s delicate brows knitted tight. Her breathtaking face filled with instant resistance and cold detachment. “Let go, Mortimer,” she snapped, her voice like ice. “Dash isn’t heavy at all. I can carry him myself.”

At just over a month old, Dash only weighed about ten pounds-carrying him was like holding a newborn baby.

Even though Mortimer’s attitude toward the puppy had just pulled a frantic, hundred-and-eighty-degree flip, Seraphina was still completely on her guard.

Who knew what kind of dark, twisted game this unpredictable man was playing now?

One minute, he was radiating a terrifying bloodlust, wishing Dash would completely vanish from the earth.

The next minute, he was acting all tender and gentle, like the thing was his own flesh and blood.

Knowing this arrogant Alpha, he was probably scheming some new, malicious plot in his head.

There was no way in hell she was trusting Dash in his hands.

“As an Alpha, I have more core strength. I can hold him steadier, and Dash will be more comfortable in my arms.”

With that, Mortimer didn’t waste another breath. Radiating a heavy, dominant aura that refused to take no for an answer, he forcefully claimed the puppy from Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith looked at the gorgeous, intimidating man standing in front of him-the guy was practically vibrating with a high- class, dominant energy that felt weirdly familiar

The doctor offered a polite, professional smile. “And you are…?”

Seraphina opened her mouth, ready to explain that this man wasn’t important and the doctor didn’t need to waste brain cells knowing his name.

But Mortimer was faster. His deep, intense eyes locked dead onto Dr. Smith.

With a cold, territorial hostility that screamed hands off, he replied flatly, “I’m Dash’s brother-in-law.”

Dr. Smith and Seraphina both froze.

The vet had no idea about the warped, toxic history between these two, but hearing Mortimer introduce himself with that specific title, he naturally assumed the guy was Seraphina’s mate. 1

So, he turned to Seraphina with a helpful shrug. “Miss Hale, if your husband wants to do the heavy lifting, you should let him. The puppy just fractured a rib. Shuffling him back and forth between different people is just going to risk a secondary injury.”

Hearing the vet’s medical opinion, Seraphina had no choice but to pull her arms back, completely against her will.
