Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 167

Chapter 167

Third Person’s POV

“Leave it,” his voice was deep and magnetic, returning to its unquestionable, commanding tone.

“Yes, sir.” Yolanda respectfully backed out of the room after placing the documents down, smoothly pulling the door shut behind her.

Mortimer’s gaze fell coldly upon the two proposals.

He reached out with his long, elegant fingers, picking up and opening the one labeled “Ski Resort.”

It was the largest, most luxurious ski resort in Los Angeles. Not only were its amenities impeccable, but more importantly, its services were extremely thoughtful-it featured a fully enclosed, exclusive play area for pets. 1

For the weekend team-building trip, Seraphina would definitely be worried about Jeaving Dash behind. This way, they could bring Dash along and hire the most professional staff to take care of him.

He suddenly remembered the densely detailed itinerary Seraphina had meticulously planned by hand for her previous trip.

Besides seeing the auroras and exploring, the thing she had been looking forward to the most was skiing.

This time, he could use the excuse of a corporate team-building event to fully and unconditionally accompany her, letting her have her fill of fun.

As for seeing the auroras…

A flicker of almost obsessive tenderness flashed in Mortimer’s eyes.

Next time, when she finally managed to get a long vacation, he would absolutely rent out the entire camp. No one would be allowed to interrupt their private world. 1

At that thought, Mortimer’s thin, usually cold lips subconsciously curled upward, forming an extremely rare smile.

His gaze locked back onto the ski resort proposal.

This was the one.

Having made his choice, he pondered for a moment before sending another message to Seraphina.

“Do you need to be on call at the hospital this weekend?”

However, for the entire afternoon after the message was sent, his phone remained dead silent, receiving absolutely no response.

Mortimer’s heart sank inch by inch. His Alpha pride kept him from double-texting.

But for the rest of the day, the entire upper management of the Craig Corporation was shrouded in a suffocating low-pressure zone, terrified that their boss would explode at any second.

It wasn’t until 5:30 PM, when the setting sun dyed the entire city a bloody red, that Seraphina finally saw the message he had

sent at noon.

By then, she had just finished a grueling, hours-long, high-difficulty surgical operation.

Walking exhaustedly out of the OR, she looked at Mortimer’s carefully worded question on her screen. Her clear, icy eyes didn’t show a single ripple of emotion. She simply tapped out a cold, detached reply.

“I have the weekend off. I can take care of Dash myself, so I won’t bother you.”

After hitting send, she walked calmly into the doctors’ locker room to change and head home.

However, before she could even button up her coat, the phone in her pocket buzzed aggressively.

Mortimer’s reply came back almost instantly, “I’ll personally drop Dash off at your place later.”

“Okay, sorry for the trouble.” Seraphina replied, her tone strictly business.

On the other side of the screen, Mortimer felt like he had just been slapped hard across the face.

Gritting his teeth, he texted back, “You are my legally mate under the witness of the Moon Goddess. Stop acting so polite with me!”

Reading this, Seraphina just pressed her pale lips together in a self-deprecating sntile, her brows furrowing slightly.

In the end, she didn’t even have the desire to reply. She shoved her phone straight into her pocket, turtied around, and walked out of the locker room.

Inside the Bentley, Mortimer stared at his phone, a complex light swirling in his deep eyes.

Dash was sprawled out on the plush leather seats, happily wagging his tail. He used his fuzzy head to affectionately rub against Mortimer’s priceless, bespoke dress pants.

Instead of showing disgust, Mortimer’s lips curved into an incredibly gentle smile.

His long, elegant fingers gently combed through the fur on Dash’s neck, even allowing the puppy to drop a slobber-soaked ball right into his palm.

Ever since he sent that text claiming her as his mate, Seraphina hadn’t replied.

He knew Seraphina was resisting this identity.

If he hadn’t used a few manipulative tactics, he probably wouldn’t even have the chance to share the same breathing space with her right now.

Over the past few days, he had been testing the waters step by step, treading carefully, but she remained an unthawable iceberg.

It only made him feel more and more like a pathetic, ridiculous clown.
