Chapter 262

Third Person’s POV
After the subordinate left, he leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. When he opened them again, the beast within him was barely restrained, and his gaze was filled with murderous intent.
On the other side, Edwin moved fast. The day after deciding to donate a building to the Healing Department, he wired the funds for an entire laboratory building and specifically asked that it be named Sera Hall.
The school, in the middle of preparing for winter break, was stunned. The Healing Department’s labs at Shadowfang Academy required cutting-edge equipment, and every piece of it cost a fortune.
An entire lab building, donated outright, left the school administration at a loss for words.
“Edwin, on behalf of every student and faculty member in the Healing Department, thank you for your generosity toward our school.”
“It’s nothing. Supporting the next generation is supporting the future of medicine.”
After the usual formalities, Edwin added, “And think of it as a gift for our Sera, too. We’ll call it Sera Hall. What do you think?”
The school representatives paused for a moment before realizing the “Sera” he meant was Seraphina.
“Of course. That would be wonderful.”
By the time Seraphina heard that a building at the academy was being named after her, the name Sera Hall had already been settled.
“Seraphina, it’s really nothing. Grandpa has more money than he knows what to do with. Besides, your and Mortimer are about to officially end things, so take it as a gift from Grandpa. Don’t feel bad about it,” Velda held Seraphina’s hand and spoke gently.
Seraphina felt at a loss. The waiting period on dissolving the bond hadn’t even ended, and Edwin was already setting things up for her future.
“Exactly, Sera. This is my gift to you. Use the lab for whatever wolf research you want going forward. If you need equipment, just tell me. I’ll donate whatever you need,” Edwin said, waving a hand generously.
The building was already donated. Seraphina could hardly ask him to take it back.
If she did, the students would probably complain about her behind her back.
Besides, the lab would genuinely help the students with their research. She was only lending her name to it. There was nothing to feel guilty about.
“Thank you, Edwin.”
“Do you have some time now? I haven’t been back to my old school in years. Walk with me?”

Seraphina agreed without hesitation.
Shadowfang Academy had a beautiful campus, even in winter.
“I confessed my feelings to my wife right over there. See that tree? It was just a sapling back then. Now look how much shade it gives.”
Edwin pointed to a large tree as he spoke to Seraphina and Velda.
“She and I even carved our names into it.”
“Really? Let me go see if they’re still there.”
Velda let go of Edwin’s arm and ran toward the tree.
Only Seraphina stayed at his side.
“Sera, are you and Mortimer really ending things?”
Seraphina looked a little surprised, then nodded. “Yes, Edwin. There was never any bad blood between us. We just decided to go our separate ways. We’re not like you two. You were lucky enough to grow old together.” 1
Her tone was gentle, no resentment in it when she mentioned Mortimer, but Edwin could still hear how
firm her decision was.
He sighed and patted the back of her hand. “It’s Mortimer’s loss.”
Seraphina smiled faintly and said nothing.
“Sera.” Just then, she heard Caldwell call her name. She turned and saw him walking toward them.
“Caldwell.”
The moment she said his name, she felt Edwin’s arm go rigid against hers.
As the former Alpha of the Blade pack, Edwin carried an ancient wolf within him. The instant Caldwell drew near, that dormant soul snapped awake inside him and let out a low, fateful growl.
A pull from somewhere deep in the bloodline tightened between them, as an invisible thread was drawn suddenly taut.
At the same time, Velda came back from the tree. As soon as she reached them, Seraphina heard her murmur, “They’ve already run into each other?”
Seraphina looked confused. She glanced at Velda, who looked like she was watching a show unfold, then at Edwin. His face and lips were trembling faintly, his stare fixed on Caldwell without blinking.
