Chapter 60

Third Person’s POV

Vivian froze, her little secret stripped bare in the middle of the hall.

She shot Seraphina a look that could kill, then brushed past her, heading for Rolf’s room.

But as their shoulders grazed, she stopped. “Try to steal Mortimer from me,” she hissed through gritted teeth, “and I’ll rip you apart, Seraphina.”

Seraphina let out a short, dry laugh she couldn’t quite catch.

The vein in Vivian’s temple throbbed. She whirled around. “What’s so funny?”

“Relax. I’m not interested in your ‘prey.””

Seraphina almost told her that Mortimer was home with a fever-practically gift-wrapped for her to go play nursemaid.

But then she remembered the look on his face this morning.

At first, she didn’t understand why Mortimer was angry when she had acted generously, even offering her place so Vivian could comfort him.

But now she understood-besides worrying about tiring Vivian, Mortimer was probably trying to protect the ‘purity’ of her.

No matter how hollow their mating was, to outsiders, she was still Mortimer’s mate. 1

If Vivian showed up at the Alpha villa now, mid-contract, it would be a PR nightmare. Mortimer was obsessed with keeping his little wolf’s reputation “pure.” He’d probably think Seraphina leaked his location just to set them up.

So, she kept her mouth shut and headed for the elevator.

Vivian, thick-skinned as ever, ducked into the car right behind her.

“Don’t think Morty driving you here meant anything,” she snapped, desperate to mark her territory in the cramped space. “He just wanted his ‘medical equipment’ delivered early to check on my brother. That’s all you are to him.”

“Mhm.” Seraphina stared at the floor numbers, her voice as flat as a weather report.

The indifference was the ultimate trigger. Vivian’s chest heaved. “I’m warning you-if you don’t fix my brother, Mortimer will have your head. Personally.”

Seraphina cut her a bored, sidelong glance. “Sure. Whatever makes you happy.”

“You…!” Vivian was vibrating now.

She scanned Seraphina’s calm face and let out a sharp, jagged laugh. “Stop acting. You’re dying inside, aren’t you? Jealous that he treats me like I’m special. We’re childhood sweethearts. If I hadn’t had to go overseas to recover, you’d never have touched that Luna title.”

“Mhm.” Seraphina even gave her a little nod to keep the rhythm.

Vivian was losing it. The mask was slipping, and she couldn’t find a way to get under this woman’s skin.

“Mortimer promised he’d wait for me!” she shrieked. “If his father hadn’t forced his hand, you’d be nothing!”

The elevator chimed. Level one.

“Yeah. I know.” Seraphina stepped out of the car with the kind of grace that only comes from not giving a damn.

Vivian stood there, stunned. She’d thrown her best punches, and Seraphina hadn’t even blinked. She went nuclear.

“DID YOU HEAR ME?! IF YOU HAVE ANY SHAME, TEAR UP THAT CONTRACT AND GET OUT OF BLADE TERRITORY!” Vivian screamed, her voice echoing through the crowded lobby.

The lobby was packed with families and visitors.

Every head turned.

The sheer volume of the drama/was too much for people to ignore. The crowd started whispering, sizing up the situation, and they didn’t like what they saw.

“Whoa, check that out. A home-wrecker doing a live show. Impressive.”

“The nerve. An unmated omega telling the Alpha’s mate to get lost? What is the world coming to?”

“Seriously. No shame. Some people will do anything to climb the social ladder.”

In the wolf world, “the other woman” was never a popular character.

The crowd didn’t even bother to lower their voices.

Vivian went pale.

She spun around, glaring at the onlookers. “What do you know?! Stay out of my business!”

The crowd wasn’t intimidated.

“Oh, she’s mad now. Maybe don’t scream at a man’s wife in public if you don’t want people talking.”
