Chapter 80
Seraphina’s POV
“Seraphina, you were the lead surgeon. You’ve been tracking his vitals every single day. He was fine. How the hell does this happen under your watch?”
Connor Davids-Rolf and Vivian’s father-was the first to go for my throat.
I looked him dead in the eye, my voice as steady as a heartbeat. “Mr. Davids, Rolf suffered an acute intracardiac thrombus. It’s a post-op complication. There are a dozen triggers for it. I’ll have a full root-cause analysis for you by morning.”
“You’re telling me my son almost died, and you, his primary surgeon, don’t even know why?”
A shrill voice cut through Connor’s sentence.
Lillian stepped up from behind her husband, her face a mask of pure, unfiltered Hostility.
Ever since the first time I met the Davids family back at the Blade compound, I’d felt Lillian’s eyes on me-sharp, resentful, like I was an intruder in my own home.
Even in front of the pack, she’d make these “jokes” about how perfect Vivian and Mortimer looked together.
“Seraphina, we trusted you with his life,” Lillian hissed, leaning into my space. “And now you think you can just wave us away with some medical jargon?”
I kept my temper on a short leash. “Mrs. Davids, complications happen. But it’s the middle of the night. I need the morning staff and full lab access to trace the source. I will give you a full account tomorrow.”
“Middle of the night? You broke him, and instead of giving us an answer, you want us to wait until breakfast?” Lillian wasn’t interested in logic. She was pointing a finger right in my face. “You’re stalling.”
I felt my brow hit a hard, dangerous line.
In the silence, the air shifted.
I smelled it–a greasy, aggressive wave of psychic pressure. It wasn’t strong. I almost wanted to laugh. These two-Connor and Lillian–were weak omegas. But they’d spent so much time being coddled by Mortimer that they actually thought they could bully me into submission with a pathetic display of “dominance.”
They picked the wrong fight.
The second their weak aura brushed against me, Lily-my wolf-snapped awake.
She let out a bone-shaking, white-hot roar in my subconscious. She was done being insulted.
With Lily’s roar, a massive, predatory Alpha wave exploded out of me like a shockwave.
Lillian and Connor turned ghost-white. Their knees buckled, and they nearly hit the linoleum floor.
I saw the raw, primal terror in their eyes as their DNA recognized a superior predator. Cold sweat broke out on their foreheads
Lillian was vibrating with rage and fear. She forced herself upright, her voice reaching a manic, desperate pitch. “You… you think you can use your aura to scare us? Seraphina, don’t think being Mortimer’s Luna protects you from this! You screwed up that surgery! And given how Mortimer feels about Vivian, we’ll see whose side he takes when the dust settles!”
She actually looked smug as she spat that last sentence out.
“I know,” I said, pulling back my pressure.
I kept my voice flat, bored. “If you’re so sure Mortimer is on your team, then you shouldn’t be worried about me ‘fixing’ the evidence overnight, right?”

“You… how did Mortimer ever mate with a woman like you!”
“If you have questions about his taste in women, take it up with him.” I stood my ground, watching Lillian practically vibrate with fury.
“Fine. Just you wait.” Lillian looked like she had more to say, but Connor grabbed her arm.
“Enough. If she wants to wait until morning, we’wait,” Connor muttered, his eyes fixed on me with a dark, threatening look.”
This is a big hospital. It’s not like she can just disappear.”
Lillian gave me one last look of pure venom and turned to leave.
But as they walked out, Vivian stopped.
She looked back at me over her shoulder. For a split second, I saw it–a weird, twisted smirk curving her lips. Then she vanished after her parents.
I froze. That look… that wasn’t the look of a worried sister. That was a look of victory.
