Fake Dating My Ex's Hockey Star Brother (Maya Scott) novel Chapter 102

BRAYDON’S POV

Katy’s been in a mood ever since she realized neither Justin nor I are planning to tell her who he’s dating. She keeps acting like it’s some personal attack, like we both sat down and agreed to keep her in the dark on purpose.

Truth is, she’s going to absolutely lose her mind when she finds out it’s Allie.

Justin’s been going back and forth about how to tell her, rehearsing different versions in his head, and changing his mind every five minutes. I almost feel bad for him because I’ve been in that spot before, caught between keeping my mouth shut and telling the truth.

And when it comes to her best friend, Katy doesn’t play fair. This is going to blow up no matter how he does it. I just hope she considers that he gave us a chance and lets him off easily.

“Are you seriously not going to talk to me?” I lean closer, eyeing the way she’s got her arms folded tight across her chest, full-on sulk mode. “I promise Justin’s going to tell you. If I say a word, he’ll actually kill me.”

She snaps her head toward me. “So you’re choosing him over me? Since last night?”

I inhale slowly, buying time because I have absolutely no idea how to answer that. I glance over at Justin, and he’s got his AirPods in, head bobbing to whatever he’s listening to and completely checked out. Yeah. I’m on my own.

I look back at her and she’s waiting for a response. This is even worse than yesterday.

After she confronted us last night, Justin somehow managed to waste an entire hour without saying a single useful thing. I still don’t know how he pulled it off, but he did. By the time the clock ran out and everyone headed back to their hotel rooms, Katy was still empty-handed and even more suspicious.

This morning, the very first thing out of her mouth wasn’t good morning or did you sleep well. She just looked at me with a straight face, cold eyes and said, “Tell me.”

And trust me, I’m not choosing Justin over her. I’m choosing me, my peace, my actual survival. I can’t get dragged into this sibling mess, because if I say anything before Justin does, he’ll definitely kill me. And Katy? She will do something much worse when she finds out I knew the whole time that Allie is dating her brother.

“Baby.” I reach for her, but she shrugs my hands away and turns slightly, sinking deeper into her sulk. “Come on, Peach,” I say softly. “Don’t be so… peachy.”

She doesn’t laugh, or even smile. She keeps looking at me like she’s seconds away from punching me.

Still, after a second, I manage to pull her closer, easing her against my side. She lets it happen, even though she keeps grumbling under her breath about betrayal and secrets and men. I don’t catch every word and honestly, I pretend I don’t hear any of it at all.

For now, this is as good as it gets.

**

“Peach.” I shake Katy gently. “We’re here.”

Her eyes peel open slowly, and she yawns, stretching like she’s trying to shake the sleep from her bones. She glances around, exhales, and rubs at her eyes.

“How did we get here so quick?” she mumbles.
