Fake Dating My Ex's Hockey Star Brother (Maya Scott) novel Chapter 119

KATY’S POV

THREE DAYS LATER

When you take down one corrupt person, you’re surprised at how many people he’s been. holding onto. The past three days have been wild. Several arrests have been made and it turns out Mr. Cooper had a lot of supporters-about nine board members who knew about. his attempt to kill Braydon and still met with him anyway.

Each of them had been promised a billion dollars. A billion. I guess that kind of money can make anyone forget their humanity, even when it’s the son of the woman who lifted you to the top. I’m happy they all got caught and this feels like the start of some good things for Braydon.

His dad’s mistress was taken in too. And while she insists she had no idea about the plan, her fake French accent and crocodile tears give her away immediately. Honestly, I hate that accent and it was funny to find out Braydon does too.

As for Bryan… he’s got a lot to process. I can’t even imagine what he’s feeling about his parents, the arrests, and his own pending case.

If you’re looking for an ounce of sympathy from me… forget it. I’m just curious what it must feel like from his side: the whole circus, his family potentially going to jail, and him stuck right in the middle.

We’ve been asked to give our statements… probably a hundred times by now. Every officer, every investigator, they all want to hear it again. And again. And again. It’s not exciting…far from it but I get it. They’re just after justice. They’re doing their jobs and maybe if I were in their shoes, I’d ask a hundred times too.

The hotel receptionist who saved our lives has come by at least three times not just for her own statement too. And every time, I hug her tightly. Every time she smiles, I feel a little lighter, a little less like the world is completely cruel. And the best part? Braydon asked her to stay in touch and to reach out in the future.

Also, I got a new phone. My old one was destroyed and honestly, it had already been through enough. It got cracked from Bryan jumping me, then lost at the precinct. It was just one more small casualty in a week full of them.

Anyway, when you almost die at the hands of your boyfriend’s father, you get a reality check you can’t ignore. And no, it’s not about falling out of love. It’s not about breaking up or all that immature crap people do when life gets hard. It’s deeper than that. It’s about seeing clearly what matters.

You realize… yeah, love can make you do crazy things. Terrifying, reckless things. Things you’d never admit to anyone else. But it also keeps you grounded. Without it, no matter how strong you are, no matter how clever or lucky, you’ve already lost to your opponent.

So I’m choosing to love Braydon fully, without hesitation, without holding back, without measuring how much I give. Every heartbeat, every breath, every thought….I’m dedicating them to him. And from the way he clings to me, the way he kisses me every chance he gets, I can tell he’s thinking the exact same thing. He’s choosing me too.

“We’re here,” Braydon whispers, pressing another soft kiss to my ear. I lift my head and smile, taking in the looming building of my dorm. And right outside… it looks like a crowd has gathered. Are they here for us?

As I step out of the car with him, the entire troop rushes toward us. Justin, Allie, Luke, Martin, Lucy, Ngozi…the entire debate and hockey team, come running.

In seconds, they engulf us, shouting and laughing and yelling our names. But it’s Allie who reaches me first. She pulls me into a hug so tight it feels like she’s trying to hold me in one place forever, burying her face in my shoulder. I can’t tell if she’s crying as I hug her back, the noise around us is deafening.

When she finally pulls back, I see the dampness on her cheeks. “You’re never, ever going to be out of my sight,” she declares, her voice trembling slightly. “Even on your honeymoon, I swear I’ll be sitting there, and watching you.”

“Creep,” I choke out, laughing through my own tears before pulling her into another hug. Maybe I’ve been underestimating what we went through but clearly, our friends haven’t.
