Fake Dating My Ex's Hockey Star Brother (Maya Scott) novel Chapter 235

Chapter 95

KATY’S POV

I shut the door behind me and Braydon looks up. He’s sitting on the bed with papers everywhere, like actually everywhere and he gives me this small, tired smile. He doesn’t even have to say anything for me to know he’s struggling because it’s all over his face.

I walk over and drop beside him, pushing a few sheets out of the way. “You haven’t even gotten through

half of this, have you?”

He sighs, dragging a hand down his face. “This shit is for a lawyer. I don’t even know why I’m looking at

them.”

“Because they’re going to ask you about it in court,” I say, raising a brow at him. “Wouldn’t it be nice to not sound completely lost?”

“It’s still like a month away.” He shoves the papers off to the side, then grabs my arm and pulls me closer. I fall into him, settling against his chest while his arms wrap around me and he presses a kiss to my hair.

“Right now, I just want to cuddle with you. It’s been too long and I missed you.” He presses another soft kiss to my hair. “Feels like we’ve been around each other, but not really… I don’t even know how you’ve been lately.”

I let out a slow breath. Saying I’m fine would be a lie. Saying I’m okay would mean pretending I’m not scared out of my mind for Justin… like everything doesn’t feel off and wrong all the time.

“Do you think we should still leave tomorrow?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t know….I was looking into flying after a major surgery and it wasn’t advised. I don’t think moving Justin is a good idea.”

His arms tighten around me, and I shift closer. I breathe him in, his clean scent grounding me to an extent

because I’m never really calm anymore. It’s like my body forgot how. I’m always on edge, always waiting

for something bad to happen. Every time I close my eyes, I see Justin and what he almost did and it just…

replays. Over and over.

I should be sleeping right now. I should be getting some rest before I head back and switch with Allie. But

I can’t.

“Maybe we should talk to Nora and figure out what’s actually best for him,” Braydon says quietly. “But hey… he’s gonna be okay.”

He shifts me so I’m facing him, his hand coming up to tilt my chin until I meet his eyes.

“It’s you I’m worried about,” he adds, softer this time. “You barely eat and you don’t sleep, Peach.”

My chest tightens a little.

He noticed. Even with me acting like everything’s fine, like I’m not slowly falling apart right in front of him.

She gives me a look that says she doesn’t believe me.

“Allie.”

She shrugs. “I’m just asking.”

I turn back to Justin and he’s watching us with a slightly amused expression.

“How are you feeling?” I ask him.

He lifts a shoulder. “Okay.”

Then he brings his hand up and presses two fingers to his temple.

I sit up a little. “What’s wrong?”

“Headache,” he murmurs. “Been there for a while.”

I look at Allie and she’s already stopped eating.

“Have they given you your meds?” I ask, turning back to him. “Justin, did the nurses bring them?”

“They did-” The words cut off.

His jaw goes slack for just a second, eyes losing focus, and then his whole body goes stiff, just long enough for me to think, wait and then his eyes roll back and his body jerks so hard the whole bed frame
