Chapter 0103
ALLISON’S POV
“Mum, I told you we can handle it.”
She glances away from the road for a second to shoot me a look. “That’s what every college girl says
before moving in with two men.”
I roll my eyes and sink back into my seat. “By men, you mean Justin and Braydon? And let’s not forget Katy’s with us.”
“Still the same thing,” she replies. “They have p*****s, so they are men. I still can’t believe I agreed to this in the first place. It just gives your dad more reasons to say I didn’t raise you right.” She tilts her head slightly. “Tell me again why the four of you decided to live together?”
I could say it’s primarily because of Justin but that wouldn’t be entirely true. He’s part of it, sure, but not because of his injuries or because he needs help navigating his second semester…or his final one as a senior.
I’ve had more video calls with him than I can count since I’ve been in California, and he’s fine. More than fine, actually. He’s active and doing everything he can. He barely even uses his crutches now, only when the pain kicks in or he needs a little balance. So yeah, I’m pretty sure he can handle classes alongside his physical therapy sessions with Dr. Gerald who, by the way, I have personal beef with for his greedy ass.
The real reason we all decided to move in together or rather, move into the three-bedroom apartment Braydon paid for, is because it’s their last semester, and we want to do everything together. At least, I do.
Katy feels the same way. She’s even made a whole list of things she wants to do with Braydon before time runs out. He acts like he hates it and keeps saying stuff like most breakups start with a list, like she’s already planning a goodbye but Katy’s not letting him off the hook.
So now, we’re all hiding behind Justin and pretending he needs help just to justify living together.
I know it’s going to be fun, and probably the best time of my life but Mum doesn’t see it that way. She’s been sending me links about unplanned pregnancies and how they ruin lives, plans, and everything. She even went as far as sending me actresses who fell off after their debut because they got pregnant.
So on one hand, I’m happy she approved me being on screen and doing my thing. On the other, I have to sit through lectures about condoms and contraceptives, which honestly, makes me want to crawl out of my skin.
“Is this the place?” Her voice pulls me out of my thoughts. She’s stopped in front of Thomas More Apartments, their signature maroon-painted buildings standing out in the late afternoon sun. A couple people pass by, hauling their bags like a usual move-in or return day.
“Yup. Now we just need to head to House 3B,” I say. She starts the engine again, driving us past the numbered apartments until we reach ours. you’re eating healthy.”
It’s such a mum thing to do and I have to bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from smiling too wide.
Inside, Mum immediately drops her purse on the couch and starts sweeping the living room: from the couch arrangement, the shared kitchen counter, the single hallway leading to three bedrooms and I can practically hear her brain cataloguing every possible scenario.
“Three bedrooms,” she says, more to herself than anyone.
“Yes, Mum.”
“And the boys share one?”
“Justin has his own,” I answer. “Braydon has his. Katy and I share.”
That’s a lie, by the way. Justin and I share one, Katy and Braydon share another, and the spare exists purely so we have somewhere to throw our stuff.
She hums. It is not a satisfied hum.
She moves to the kitchen next, opening one cabinet, closing it, and opening another.
Braydon catches my eye from across the room and mouths ‘is she always like this?’ and I mouth back ‘yes,
keep smiling.’
Katy, bless her, trails behind Mum like a little tour guide. “We already stocked the fridge, Mrs. Katherine. And the place has really good water pressure -”
“Mm-hm.” Mum opens the fridge, inspects and closes it. She checks the lock on the back door, she peers down the hallway and I want to disappear into the floor.
“Nice place,” she finally says, returning to the living room. “Braydon, you paid for this?”
“Yes ma’am,” Braydon responds.
“Smart boy.” She nods, then settles herself onto the couch. “Sit down. All of you.”
