BRAYDON’S POV
Katy’s tiny fingers are threading through my hair, slow and absent-mindedly, like she’s not even aware she’s doing it. My eyes are still closed, but I can feel her watching me. I can feel that soft, warm stare she always gives me.
I open my eyes, and yeah… the exact smile I imagined. It’s completely unfair to my heart, especially with her messy hair and her t**s drowning in her little top.
“Did I wake you up?” she whispers, biting her lip like she’s scared she disturbed me.
I shake my head, pulling her closer by the waist. She’s cute, she’s small and she’s perfect in every way. I still can’t believe she’s mine. The same girl who showed up six weeks ago to tutor me in her small peach shirt, tired as hell from a bad day, is now curled into my chest.
I nudge her forehead lightly with my finger. “Did you even nap?”
She shakes her head, her cheeks going pink. “I couldn’t sleep.”
My chest warms stupidly because I know what she means, even if she doesn’t say it.
I chuckle under my breath and pull her closer, tucking her into me. Her scent fills the space between us, and I breathe it in.
“Are you staying the night?” she asks, her voice so tiny I almost didn’t hear her.
I glance down at her. “Do you want me to?”
She nods immediately.
I smile, brushing my thumb over her cheek. “Then I’ll stay the night, baby.”
She giggles and covers her face with both hands, and honestly, how is she this cute? How is this real? I can’t believe this is going to be my life from now on. And you know what? The dumbest thing I ever believed was that I don’t date.
Yeah. I don’t date anyone… except Katy.
I look back at her and she’s pouting up at me, her eyes narrowed just a little.
“What’s going on in that mind?” I ask.
Instead of answering immediately, she drags her fingers lightly across my bare chest and it sends a small shiver through me.
She finally shrugs. “I don’t know… just thinking about how everything happened.” She lets out a soft chuckle. “I had no clue you were going to ask me out.”
“Why?” I ask, watching her hand more than her face.
“I don’t know… maybe your whole no dating rule.” She glances up at me. “You’re awfully good at masking your feelings too.”
“Nah.” I shake my head, catching her hand gently but not stopping her. “My feelings have always been clear, so clear Justin figured everything out.”
Her fingers freeze on my chest. Her eyes widen, and she sits up a little straighter, pushing her hair behind her ear.
“Ju-he knows?”
I lean back against the headboard, stretching out. “Who do you think helped me track down
Cici?”
She pauses, her eyes narrowing as she searches my face. It’s like she’s putting pieces together one by one. And then…boom…realization hits and she slaps a hand over her mouth.
“No way.”
I can’t help the small smirk pulling at my lips. “You didn’t think it was a coincidence, did you?”
She slowly lowers her hand, eyes wide and shining with disbelief.
“Oh my God… now it makes sense.” She shakes her head, still stunned. “I mean, he acted like he didn’t know anything. He even pretended to be on my side and said he didn’t believe you.”
I press my lips together to keep from laughing. “We had to trick you somehow.”
She gasps dramatically and punches my chest. I catch her hand before she pulls it back, holding it against me, and feeling her palm warm on my skin.
“How did he find out?” she demands, scooting closer like she needs every detail. “Was he
pissed? Tell me everything.”
I slide my hand into her hair, guiding her gently back into my arms. She melts into my side, her cheek brushing my shoulder as I stroke her hair.
“It’s actually funny,” I murmur. “He’s kinda known for a long time.”
She lifts her head slightly, eyes locking with mine.
“But,” I continue, brushing my thumb over her cheek, “he wanted me to come clean on my own. So when you went completely went berserk on me…” I let out a soft laugh. “I came clean.”
