SLOANE’S POINT OF VIEW.

I lowered my voice low enough to make her lean in to actually hear what I said. You sure have a lot to say for someone who isn’t wearing the right uniform
anymore.”
Her victorious smile faltered immediately at that, her eyes widening in shock at my words. I guess she thought no one would notice the change.
“What happened?” I asked, feigning interest. “Daddy’s money no longer long enough to afford the scarlet uniform? I guess things must be really rough back
home. I guess this is what happens when you no longer have Lucien’s name or shadow helping you with those deals in daddy’s company.”
She drops her hands at her sides, clenching them into fists.
“You know what? I can have my dad, you know, the Valerian Everhart, billionaire, mogul, all-around rich man, invest in your father’s company. You know, he has a few measly millions to give out to the less fortunate. I’m sure a couple million will help you guys at home.”
“Who the hell do you even think you are?!”
“Someone much richer than you, baby girl.”
“You think a few millions-”
“Billions.” I corrected, while staring at my nails.
She scoffed. “You think all this matters?”
“What? You mean the money you don’t have? You know you should be really careful. If you act right, I’m sure I can put in a good work back home, so your dad’s company can at least rise from the deep, deep ashes Lucien buried it in.”
“Oh, please.” She flipped her hair, but the flick was stiff and desperate, because my eyes caught the slight tremor of her palm. “Even if I were stripped down to nothing, I’ll always be better than you. You’re still the charity case in this school, nothing’s changed.”
“That’s the problem, Roxanne. Everything has changed; look around, and you just might catch it. And if you’re looking for your posse to back you up, maybe check the bathrooms. Oh, wait, that’s right, they ditched you. Guess that’s what Happens when you become the runt of the litter. Let me just warn you, now that you’re reduced to the level of the very scholarship kids you treated like hellust know this: they bite back. And they certainly will now. I’d suggest
never walking alone, ever.”
A few lingering students had slowed down to watch, whispering amongst themselves while some of them filmed the exchange. I smirked at the sight, because for the first time, Roxanne was quite beneath me, not because of my boyfriend, but because of an elevated status she could never beat me over.
Roxanne’s lips curved to the side, an ugly expression taking over her already plac features. I didn’t know how an eighteen-year-old girl already had too much surgery done on her face.
“Remind me to avoid your doctor, because if he did something so horrible to your face, his license should be confiscated and set ablaze immediately.” Her painfully full lips dropped open in shock as she stared around at the staring stunts, but there was no bite left in her expression.
“Careful, Sloane. I can very much destroy you. There’s still so much I can find ou about you, and use against you”
My stomach knotted at the thought. Because I knew Matt had told her something else about me that we swore would never escape our lips, but instead of letting her see it, I forced my chin higher. “Go ahead and spread them. Just make sure you remember this: Lucien doesn’t let anyone touch what’s his.”
She clenched her jaw and squeezed her fingers even harder into her palm; “You think he’ll actually stay with you? You’re a placeholder, nothing more. He’ll

chew you up and spit you out the way his father did his mother, and yours.”
“What the hell does that mean?” Someone whispered in the crowd, almost betraying my calm expression.

The words didn’t sting, they just made me suspicious…. I’d find everything out thight, I hope. But instead of folding and letting her see the effect of her words, I let them fuel me. “Better a placeholder than plastic. At least I don’t squeak when I walk. Again, please, sue your doctor. You’re starting to look like a bubble fish, and it feels weird to have a human-looking fish walking amongst mans for crying out loud,”
Her face burned at that, the colour resembling a whistling kettle, and for a moment, I thought steam would come out of her ears, and she would lunge at me. But she turned to the crowd instead and directed her anger at those already ming.
“Stop! Who the hell do you think you are?! You know who I am, I’m the fucking queen of this school. I’ll have all of you see it, I swear it! You’ll pay for
this.”
“Oh, please, Roxanne.” One of the members of her posse said, staring at Roxanne with a mean expression. Sammantha walked over to where I stood, like we were besties, and that made me frown. “Stop acting like a fucking bitch just because Sloane has all you thought you would get but are now so far from.”
“You? You think you can actually talk?” Roxanne spat, and with a smirk, I slowly moved back, observing the masterpiece happening before me.
“Oh, please, we all put up with you because we thought you actually had something to offer. But you’re nothing but a phoney. I mean, you’re now a scholarship kid, you can’t keep hiding it.”
“Oh, you bitch.” Roxanne screamed, her voice shrill, before she lunged at Samantha and started a catfight in the middle of the school’s garden.
I chuckled at the sight, but before I knew it, her second posse member joined in with a screech, as Fiona launched herself in between the fight, grabbing Roxanne’s hair harshly. Roxanne hissed in pain at the burn and grabbed Fiona’s hair, but she was no match for both girls because both of them teamed up. grabbing Roxanne by her neck and hair before hitting her in the face.
But before everything could get even juicier, a teacher’s voice exclaimed, forcing the students to disperse quickly, but I stood there, the double protection of both Lucien and Valerian too much for anyone to punish me.
“All of you get to class! Three of you, to the principal’s office, now!”
