“Good girl,” Lucien murmured so low only I could hear, his breath grazing my temple as he leaned past me to drop a couple of bills on the table. My pulse spiked in my throat at his tone.

I could tell that if he caught me alone like last time, he wouldn’t stop till I was trembling and begging him to stop, while I pulled him closer.

By the time we left the diner, the night sky stretched out like a canvass to be painted on. The neon sign flickered behind us, as we headed out the door.

‘I won’t lie, that was a damn good meal, scholarship girl. Theo said, and just when I was about to answer, I saw him.

He leaned against the wall in tattered clothes. His hair was matted, and missing bits around his head.

He looked at me with a somewhat hungry gaze, as his bone thin hands stretched out towards me. He walked to where I stood, smiling at me with his yellow chipped teeth on display;

“Got anything, pretty girl?” He asked, his voice throaty as he began to itch his hands till they bled. ‘I just need some change man, just some money…or anything.”

I opened my mouth to tell him to leave, when the force of someone’s kick pushed him back.

His hands wrapped around me as he pulled me to stand behind him.

Touch her, look at her, breathe near her, and I make you bleed.” He said, his voice dripping with disgust as he gripped onto my hands tightly, like he was afraid I would be lost if he let up.

The addict whimpered as he itched his neck, and hands as he mumbled; “Please, just get me something, man. Anything….come on, man.”

Lucien laughed humorlessly, as his lips drew in a viscous snarl, Help? You don’t need that kind of help, at least not from here. Come near her again, and

I’ll have you shipped off to where no one would find you. You act like you want help, but what you really want, is a fix. Something to get you high again,

and sick fucks like you will do anything for that.”

Just before I could say something, Theo gripped Lucien’s shoulder, and said; “It’s not worth it, man. Let’s just go.”

He said, looking serious for the first time since I’d met him.

Suddenly, Killian and Lucian flanked to the side, blocking me from the view as Lien, and Theo began to whisper so low to each other, I could barely make out what they were saying.

When Lucien finally turned to me, he gripped my hand, and pulled me to his cake the ground we walked on burned him. On getting to the car door, he pulled the passenger side open, and gestured for me to get in.

I quickly plopped my ass in the seat, for fear of what he might do in this state. I barely spared the guys a glance, as he rounded the car, got in, an drove

off as soon as he hit the ignition.

‘I don’t want you ever speaking to people like that, okay? They come towards you and you run in the other direction, if I’m not there. But if I am, I’ll take care of it. You understand? Ile asked, his grip on the steering wheel tight as he ove with so much speed, felt like the car was flying off the road.

His hand grabs onto my thigh with such strength, I was sure I would be bruised tomorrow.

Before I could respond, my phone buzzed in my skirt pocket. I pulled it out, andw a notification from a number I didn’t know.

Clicking on it, the message on my screen sent ice into my blood stream as I read the words before me;

“Your crown is slipping, girl. Seraphina is on her way, and she’ll take him from you before you can blink.”
