CHAPTER 127
AMIE
Simon was waiting in the car when I came down from Hart Enterprises.
I got in the passenger seat and barely set my bag at my feet before his hand landed on my thigh.
“Come here.”
He pulled me in by the back of my neck, kissed me slow and deep, and only then started the car.
“Now we can go.”
I smiled.
“Were you waiting for that?”
“All day.”
He squeezed my thigh and pulled into Manhattan traffic.
“Now you’re all mine.”
“I started planning the wedding today,” I said.
The hand on my leg stopped.
He turned his head immediately.
“You started?”
The satisfaction in his voice made me laugh.
“Don’t make that face.”
He smiled, and his thumb started moving again over my knee.
“What’d you look at?”
་།
“Venues. And I found out that getting married in New York requires planning, patience, and probably a deal with the devil.”
“I can handle the last two.”
“You don’t have patience.”
“Then I’ll take the devil.”
I laughed, and Simon squeezed my thigh.
“Count me in.”
I turned to look at him.

my wedding too. I want to know where you want to get married, taste the food, argue about the music.”
My chest tightened.
“You actually want to do all that?”
“Jamie, I want to marry you. Of course I want to be part of the part that ends with you walking toward me,
The answer hit me in a way that was ridiculously simple.
“When?” I asked. “When do you want to get married?”
He didn’t even blink.
“I already told you, if it were up to me, next week.”
I laughed.
“Simon.”
“I’m serious.”
“I know. That’s the problem. We can’t just get married overnight.”
“How long do you need?”
I thought about invitations, kids, family, a dress, work, and all the tiny things that turned two people saying yes into an altar.
“Two months?”
“Done.”
“You’re not even going to negotiate?”
“I would’ve taken two days. Two months seems excessively civilized.”
I shook my head, smiling.
His hand slid a little higher up my thigh.
“Simon.”
“What?”
“We’re talking about our wedding.”
“I know.”
“Then why is your hand there?”
He gave me that calm look that never matched the things he did to me.

“Because I can think about two things at once.”

“You weren’t complaining about that skill this morning.”
My face got hot.

The memory came back in full: the apartment still quiet, Simon sweaty after his workout, the way a stupid argument had turned into something else before I could remember I was running late.
“You almost made me late.”
“And you left the house smiling. I’m guessing it was worth it.”
His hand stayed there, warm and firm, while the car crawled through red lights and honking horns. I tried to focus on the city outside the window.
It didn’t work.
Simon’s hand slid higher, his fingers finding the hem of my dress. He didn’t ask anything. He didn’t need to. His thumb brushed the inside of my thigh, moving up slowly, and I felt the air inside the car get thicker.
“Simon…”
“Mm?”
His voice came out low, distracted, like he was paying attention to the road and me at the same time. His fingers kept climbing, patient, until they found the lace of my underwear.
He stopped.
For a second.
Then his thumb dragged across the fabric, a slow, deliberate motion that made me grip the seat.
“You’re wet,” he said, and there was no question in his voice.
“I’ve been in a car with you for ten minutes.”
“And that answers my question.”
Before I could respond, his fingers pulled my underwear to the side.
The first touch was direct.
My whole body clenched, and I bit my lip to keep quiet. Simon kept driving with one hand on the wheel and the other exactly where I couldn’t ignore it.
“Stay quiet,” he murmured.

“You’re insane.”
robably.

His thumb made a slow circle, and my legs fell open a little more, betraying any attempt at composure. He noticed. Of course he noticed. The corner of his mouth curved up.
“Just like that,” he said.
“Simon, there are people in the car next to us.”
“Then don’t look.”
He accelerated when the light turned green, and the motion pushed his fingers deeper for a second. A sound escaped my throat before I could catch it.
“Quiet,” he repeated, but this time his voice came out rougher.
His fingers kept working, slow and precise, matching the rhythm of traffic. At every stop, every red light, he took the chance to go deeper. At every acceleration, the world started moving again and I had to pretend everything was normal.
I was not normal.
My breathing was short. My hands gripped the seat and the strap of my bag alternately, not knowing what to do with my body. Simon kept his eyes on the road, profile calm, jaw set, like he was just driving home.
“Are you embarrassed?” he asked.
“I’m trying not to die.”
“That’s not an answer.”
His fingers slowed, almost stopping. A sound of protest escaped me before I could help it.
“Answer,” he said.
“No.”
“No what?”
“I’m not embarrassed.”
“Good girl.”
The praise hit like a blow, and he rewarded it with a faster, firmer motion, his thumb pressing exactly where it made me forget we were moving. My hips lifted off the seat a little. Simon used the arm on the
wheel to push me back, eyes never leaving the road.
“Stay still.”
“I can’t.”
“You can.”
