FAKE DATING WITH BENEFITS: MY BILLIONAIRE BOSS

CHAPTER 159

The next morning, I woke up before my alarm and spent a few seconds staring at the ceiling, trying to convince my body that getting out of bed was a reasonable thing to do. After the chaos of the day before, I could’ve happily spent an entire week hiding under the covers.

Unfortunately, contracts didn’t review themselves.

By the time I finished getting ready, I found Simon in the kitchen wearing a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled to his forearms, his laptop open in front of him. Sam sat beside him, completely absorbed in something, while Jack ate cereal with his eyes glued to his tablet.

Lily, on the other hand, was kneeling on the chair next to Simon, intensely focused on balancing something on his head.

It took me a second to process what I was looking at.

My chest squeezed in the best possible way.

Simon had a meeting open on his laptop and, perched crookedly on top of his head, a pink tiara Lily had apparently just crowned him with.

I stopped in the doorway, fighting a laugh.

“Should I even ask?”

“No.”

Lily pointed at him.

“He’s the king.”

“I’m the king,” Simon confirmed with a perfectly straight face.

I laughed.

Sam reached for one of the keys on Simon’s laptop. Without even looking, Simon caught his little hand.

“No, buddy. Last time you almost bought a company.”

Jack burst out laughing.

I walked over to the counter and kissed the top of Lily’s head, then Sam’s.

“You guys going to be okay without me?”

“Of course,” Jack said.

The kids weren’t going to school that day. After everything that had happened, Simon and I had agreed they needed a day at home, away from questions, crowded hallways, and frightened adults pretending everything was normal.

Simon would run his business from the penthouse office while taking care of them.

Try to.

“I have a meeting at ten,” he said. “I’m taking all three of them with me.”

I stopped.

“Seriously? Wouldn’t it be easier to cancel?”

“It’s not the first time I’ve taken them to work, remember? They promised they’ll behave.” Simon looked at the kids. “And this time, I have an advantage.”

“What advantage?”

“I’m taking them in the helicopter.”

Three little faces lit up.

“A helicopter?” Sam shouted.

“A real one?” Lily asked.

Jack already looked suspicious. “Yours?”

“Yes.”

Lily pointed toward the ceiling.

“Is it gonna land on our roof?”

Simon glanced at me before answering.

“Exactly.”

They erupted.

I was still laughing when I headed toward the elevator. Simon followed me, leaving the kids behind to argue over who got to sit by a window.

As soon as I pressed the button, Simon slipped his arms around my waist from behind.

“You’re really going to abandon me with them?”

“You just declared yourself perfectly capable of handling them.”

“I lied.”

I turned in his arms.

He smiled, but his eyes softened.

“Call me if you need anything.”

“You too.”

“Hmm?”

“Anything.”

I knew what he really meant.

I wrapped my arms around his neck.

“I’ll be fine.”

“I know.”

“Then stop making that face.”

“What face?”

“The one where you’re seriously considering locking me inside this apartment and canceling my entire workday.”

“I was considering exactly that.”

The elevator arrived.

Before the doors had even fully opened. Simon pulled me into a slow, warm kiss that was dangerously inappropriate for eight in the morning.

When he finally let me go, he rested his forehead against mine.

“Come back to me.”

My heart stumbled.

“Always so dramatic.”

“Come back, Counselor.”

I smiled.

“I will.”

By that afternoon. I’d completely forgotten how peaceful that goodbye had been.

Elizabeth was leaning against my desk. Kelly had claimed one of the chairs. Claire had dragged another one in from the office next door.

All three of them were staring at me.

“This feels like an intervention.”

“It’s a negotiation.” Elizabeth corrected.

Kelly nodded. “A very serious one.”

aire clasped her hands together. “Potentially historic.”

I looked from one to the other.

“What do you want?”

Elizabeth smiled.

“We just wanted to tell you that you look beautiful today.”

“Beautiful,” Kelly echoed.

“Radiant,” Claire added.

“You want something.”

Elizabeth looked appalled. “That’s ridiculous.”

Kelly pointed at my ring.

“Speaking of beautiful things…. how’s the wedding planning going?”

“My wedding? Fine.”

“Do you know how many people you’re inviting yet?” Claire asked a little too quickly.

“Not exactly. I haven’t gotten that far.”

“Think exemplary employees might make the cut?” Elizabeth murmured.

I laughed.

“Oh my God. Is that why you’ve been sucking up to me all day?”

Kelly pressed a hand to her chest, offended.

“I would never.”

Claire leaned toward me as Elizabeth slapped a hand on my desk.

“Let’s make this simple. Do you like us?”

“Sometimes.”

“Perfect. We’re basically family.”

“Family feels a little strong, don’t you think?” I shot back with a smile, keeping my eyes on the contract on my screen.

Kelly grinned.

“So?”

bviously you’re invited.”

Claire’s shriek made someone on the other side of the glass partition look over.

Kelly threw both arms into the air.

“I knew it!”

“So did I,” Elizabeth said. “But I like written confirmation.”

“You three are losing your minds. Don’t you have work to do?”

“We do,” Kelly said. “We’re choosing to ignore it.”

“Great. Very professional.”

“Speaking of professionalism…” Elizabeth exchanged a suspicious look with Kelly and Claire.

I narrowed my eyes.

“I don’t like that look.”

Kelly smiled.

“Now that we’ve officially been invited, we thought we should return the favor.”

“By doing what?”

Claire immediately perked up.

“Throwing your bachelorette party.”

My smile vanished.

“No. Please don’t.”

All three protested at once.

“Jamie!”

“Absolutely not.”

“Hear us out!”

I pointed at them.

“I am definitely not doing the whole stripper thing.”

Elizabeth looked personally offended.

“We are professionals.”
