– SIMON
I doubled back to look for Jamie, but there was no sign of her. I searched the nearby streets, checked two alleys, and called her so many times I lost count. Nothing.
Fuck, Jamie. Where the hell are you?
I was getting close to losing my mind when I spotted an older woman sitting outside a grocery store. I went over, described Jamie, and asked if she’d seen her.
“The girl who was running?”
“Yes. You saw her?”
She hesitated, glancing around.
“Some guy took a woman who wasn’t from around here. It was Cobra.”
My stomach dropped.
“Where do I find this Cobra?”
“You don’t want trouble with him.”
“He has my wife.”
Maybe it was my voice. Maybe it was the look on my face. She pointed to an old building beyond the alley.
“The warehouse with the green gate. But be careful.”
I thanked her, discreetly alerted my security team, and sent them my location. I told them to call the police if
I didn’t check back in within ten minutes. Then I walked toward the warehouse.
Two men stood at the entrance. One got to his feet when I approached.
“What do you want?”
“Looking for a guy named Cobra. He here?”
“He’s busy.”
“Then tell him an opportunity just showed up.”
The guy laughed.
“This ain’t a bank, pretty boy.”
I took out my wallet and showed him my black card, keeping my voice low.

His laughter died when he saw my American Express Centurion, the invitation-only Black Card reserved for some of the wealthiest clients in the world. His friend leaned in for a better look, then glanced at the Patek Philippe on my wrist.
“How well are we talking?”
“Depends how much more of my time you waste.”
He opened the gate.
“Come on.”
I stepped inside, keeping track of every exit. A narrow hallway led into a mostly empty room cluttered with boxes and tools. The man knocked on a metal door.
“Cobra! Some rich guy wants a word.”
I heard muffled voices. Then the door opened.
Jamie was tied to a chair.
My world stopped.
I saw the red marks on her wrists. The tears on her face. A syringe lying on the table. And the man with the scar through his eyebrow stepping between us.
Every instinct I had screamed at me to tear him apart.
But Jamie was alive. And I needed to keep her that way.
“Who the fuck are you?” the man demanded.
“A woman told me you took my wife. I’m here to get her.”
He looked me up and down.
“And who are you?”
“Simon Hart.”
One of the men behind him let out a low whistle.
Cobra didn’t move.
“Hart? The billionaire?”
“Her husband.”
Jamie tried to say something, but no sound came out.

She pressed her lips together, fighting back another sob.
Cobra folded his arms and gave me another once-over.

“So you’re the pretty girl’s husband? Shit. She should’ve told me she was married to a loaded motherfucker.”
I ignored the bait.
“She’s leaving with me. Right now.”
“And who says I’m letting her?” He gave me a mocking grin. “I call the shots here, rich boy.”
“Three hundred thousand dollars. You let my wife go now, and nobody touches her again.”
The man guarding the door straightened at the number.
Cobra burst out laughing.
“You fucking serious? Your wife’s only worth three hundred grand to you?”
