– CHLOE
“No. No, no, no. This cannot be happening.”
My fingers were tangled in my hair, pulling at the blond strands so hard that some came loose and my scalp burned. The physical pain was the only thing keeping me grounded as my entire world threatened to collapse in front of that cold monitor.
If that goddamn investigator got to the old woman… if that decrepit witch opened her mouth and told them everything she knew about Annie’s childhood…
Fuck. I had to do something. But before I could come up with anything resembling a plan, before my scrambled thoughts could form a single coherent idea, the scene on the screen changed.
I should have turned it off.
I really should have.
But my fingers wouldn’t move, and my eyes… I couldn’t look away.
Simon was in bed with Jamie. The amber glow of the bedside lamp washed their bodies in warm gold, casting soft shadows across the bedroom walls.
Jamie lay facedown, her face buried in the pillow, her dark hair fanned out in a messy halo. Her bare back rose and fell with her uneven breathing, and even through the grainy footage, I could make out the sheen of sweat on her skin.
Simon knelt behind her, between her legs, and my stomach clenched as his hands traveled slowly, possessively down her back, as though he were committing every inch of her skin to memory.
He leaned forward and pressed his lips to the nape of her neck, leaving damp kisses that made her shiver.
“Simon…” Her moan came out muffled against the pillow, and something twisted painfully inside me.
He kept kissing her naked body, her shoulders, her shoulder blades, the delicate curve of her spine.
Every kiss looked like an act of worship, another claim he was laying on her skin.
Jamie arched against him, and I watched her fists tighten around the white sheets.
“Shh,” Simon whispered against her skin. Even through the camera’s lousy audio, I heard him. “Keep it down, baby.”
She turned her head, giving me a glimpse of her profile: closed eyes, parted lips, an expression of pure bliss as he fucked her with a passion I’d never experienced.
fucking perfect for me, Mrs. Hart,” he murmured, his voice rough with desire. “So perfect.”

I watched Simon’s fingers slip between her thighs. Jamie let out a louder, more desperate moan before biting down hard on the pillow to smother it.
Simon rolled Jamie onto her back in one swift movement and settled over her. Her hair spilled across the pillow as they gazed at each other for a few seconds, smiling and exchanging tender touches. The easy intimacy between them sent a sharp stab of jealousy through me.
Simon bent to kiss her, and I tightened my grip on my phone.
It was astonishing how that man seemed physically incapable of keeping his mouth off his wife.
And the worst part was, Jamie knew it. Of course she did. One look at that smug expression told me everything.
I couldn’t understand what he saw in her.
I kept watching, increasingly irritated by the way Simon kissed her and stroked her face.
When he finally lay down beside her, he gathered her into his arms.
“I love you,” he said, kissing her forehead.
I rolled my eyes.
Oh, for God’s sake.
“I love you too,” she answered.
Simon smiled and brushed a strand of hair away from her face.
“You know you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me?”
I nearly threw my phone across the room.
The best thing that had ever happened to him?
Jamie Collins?
A lawyer who, before meeting him, had been just another employee at his company?
Unbelievable.
I would have made a much better wife. I would have known how to accompany him to events, entertain his guests, and throw spectacular parties no one would ever forget.
And most importantly, I would never have had to work again.
What woman in her right mind married a billionaire and kept worrying about contracts and meetings?
Jamie, apparently.

On the screen, Simon pulled the sheet over them and tucked her head against his chest. Jamie said something I couldn’t make out, and he burst out laughing.
Even the man’s laugh was gorgeous.
I let out an annoyed sigh.
It wasn’t just the money. Although I certainly wasn’t hypocritical enough to pretend Simon’s billions didn’t
interest me.
I wanted all of it.
The mansion, the jewelry, the dresses, the staff calling me Mrs. Hart.
I wanted to walk down that grand staircase knowing the house belonged to me. I wanted Sylvia asking what I’d like for dinner instead of treating me like another coworker.
And I wanted Simon.
Simon most of all.
I wanted that man to look at me with the same ridiculous devotion he reserved for Jamie.
The problem was, he barely noticed I existed.
To Simon Hart, I was nothing more than the nanny his kindhearted wife had decided to take in.
The insult of it was almost unbearable.
I hadn’t been born to waste my life looking after those insufferable children. I deserved so much more. And if everything went according to plan, I wouldn’t have to take orders from anyone in that house much longer.
It was only a matter of time.
I looked back at the screen.
Jamie was almost asleep when Simon kissed her forehead again.
“Get some sleep, baby. We’ve got a big day tomorrow.”
