CHAPTER 37
MON
We froze.
A security guard stepped into the records room, flashlight sweeping the dark.
“Anyone in here?”
I grabbed Jamie’s hand and pulled her behind a shelf. My heart slammed against my ribs as I pressed her between my body and the wall, one hand firm on her waist, keeping her hidden.
The guard passed within feet of us.
The beam of light raked the aisle and vanished.
When the door finally clicked shut, I let out the breath I’d been holding.
“I think he’s gone.”
Jamie looked up at me, but I took an extra second to drop my hand from her waist. Her breathing was still fast, her eyes still bright with whatever the hell we’d been about to do.
I wanted to finish it. Wanted to taste her again, feel her muffled gasps while I had her pinned against that
metal shelf.
But something held me back.
“Jamie.” My voice came out rougher than I expected. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
She frowned. “What?”
“I’m flying out to Monaco. Tomorrow morning.” I dragged a hand through my hair. “Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Business.”
“Oh.” She blinked, clearly thrown by the shift. “Well… have a good trip, then.”
“I’ll be gone two days.”
She shrugged, a hesitant smile tugging at her lips. “Two days. That’s not long.”
“I want you to come with me.”
The words were out before I could stop them. Jamie’s eyes went wide.
“What?”
“I want you to come to Monaco with me.”
“Simon, I-” She shook her head, confused. “Why would I go with you? You have business meetings, sponsor events, Formula 1 people… I have nothing to do with any of that.”

“You have something to do with me.”
mie stared at me, those green eyes glinting in the dim archive light. For a second, I thought she’d laugh. calme ridiculous, tell me I was being dramatic.
Instead, she stepped closer.
“Are you serious?”
“Uh-huh.”
She bit her lip, and I watched the internal war play out across her face.
“Simon…” She let out a breath. “I have work. Contracts to review. Depositions to organize.”
“You can bring the work with you.” I stepped toward her. “I’ll get you a hotel room, space to work, high- speed Wi-Fi, whatever you need. It’s two days in Monaco. Sun, Formula 1, champagne. You can even work in a bikini if you want.”
She let out a short laugh. “Is this blackmail?”
“It’s persuasion.”
She studied me for a long moment, and I saw the exact second her resistance crumbled.
“You know how to sell a thing, Hart.”
“So you’ll come?”
Jamie sighed, but a stubborn smile curved her mouth.
“I’ll come. But if my boss fires me over this, I expect you to have the decency to support me afterward.” She shot me a playful look.
I laughed low, pulling her close.
“Done.”
The airport was a zoo the next morning.
We walked through the VIP lounge, and I watched her eyes go wide when we passed through the first-class door.
“You didn’t tell me we were flying first class.”
“You didn’t ask.”
When we stepped onto the plane, she stopped dead in the aisle, staring at the nearly empty cabin. Just eight spacious seats, all empty except for the two I’d reserved. Soft lighting, silence, champagne already waiting on a marble table.
“Where are the other passengers?” Jamie asked, lowering herself carefully into her seat.

“I bought all the seats.”
e whipped her head around so fast I almost heard it crack.
“You bought every seat in first class?”
“Yes.” I settled in next to her. “Didn’t want anyone bothering us.”
“Simon, that’s-” She opened her mouth and closed it again. “That’s such a waste.”
“Maybe.” I leaned slightly toward her. “On domestic flights, I usually take the jet because I prefer the
privacy. But internationally, the logistics get trickier, especially when the plane has to be shared with other people.”
She stared at me for a long beat, then let out a laugh.
“You’re so full of yourself.”
I grabbed two champagne flutes and handed her one. Our eyes locked as we raised our glasses.
“To Monaco.” I lifted mine.
“To Monaco.” She clinked her glass against mine.
And when she drank, I knew I’d made the right call.
Two days away from her would’ve been torture.
Two days with her?
Best insanity of our lives.
The plane cut through the sky, and the cabin had sunk into near-total silence. The lights had dimmed a while ago, and the flight attendant had already converted Jamie’s seat into a comfortable bed.
I should have been sleeping. Had a packed schedule in Monaco, important meetings, people waiting on
But I couldn’t shut my eyes.
Jamie was curled up under her blanket, tucked in like a cat, and I watched her from across the aisle. Her breathing was soft, lips slightly parted, lashes casting faint shadows on her cheeks.
She was so beautiful it hurt.
For a moment, I caught myself thinking about how much my life had changed in such a short time. Days ago, Jamie Collins was just the lawyer I passed in the office hallways. Now she was here, sleeping on a plane to Monaco, because I couldn’t stand the idea of being away from her for two days.
This was completely insane.
