CHAPTER 40
MON
We walked side by side through the FI VIP area in Monaco.
Surrounded by the familiar faces I was used to seeing at events like this. Businessmen, investors, racing executives, all wearing immaculate suits and talking abour money like it was poker chips.
For me, it was just another event day.
But for Jamie…
She tried to hide it, but I caught her sneaking glances to the sides, absorbing every detail. Her eyes lit up as they swept over the well-dressed women, the champagne flutes being served without ceremony, the multi- million dollar cars lined up ahead.
I bit back a smile and squeezed her hand lightly.
“Enjoying the view, Counselor?”
Jamie lifted her chin, trying to play it cool.
“It’s… interesting.”
I laughed low.
“You’re looking at everything like you’re about to bolt.”
She shot me a quick look before glancing back at the pit area.
“I’m just trying to understand… Is this event always like this?”
“Like what?”
“Full of rich people walking around like untouchable gods.”
I let out a short laugh.
“Yeah. The egos here are bigger than the car engines.”
She sighed and shook her head.
“Figured.”
I lowered my head a little and whispered in her ear:
“But you can relax. In here, you don’t have to impress anyone.”
She turned her face to me, curious.
I pulled her waist lightly, pressing our bodies together.
“Because everyone here already knows the baddest man in this place is me.”

ways so full of yourself.”
“I prefer to call it honesty.”
She squeezed my hand, and I caught that mischievous glint in her eyes.
We moved forward.
“Simon!” A deep voice called out, and when I turned, I saw Julien Moreau, director of Montclair Racing one of Fl’s most traditional teams.
Julien was the reason I had to come to Monaco in person. I could have handled it all with a phone call, but in the business world, that didn’t exist. Even if the conversation was short, the credibility of being there, face to face with him, made all the difference.
The gray-haired man walked toward me with his usual impeccable posture. His sharp eyes reflected years of experience, and the professional smile on his lips was calculated. Julien wasn’t the type to be easily impressed.
But I wasn’t the type who needed to impress anyone either.
“Moreau.” I shook his hand.
He glanced at Jamie beside me, and I felt her slight squeeze on my hand.
“This is Jamie, my girlfriend.”
She blushed but kept her composure. Smiled elegantly and extended her hand to greet him.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Moreau.”
Moreau’s gaze traveled from her to me, and he smiled slightly.
“So Simon Hart has finally settled down.”
I let out a short laugh.
“Don’t get too excited.”
Moreau laughed too, shaking his head.
“I’m serious. This might even be good for Hart’s image. Never thought I’d see the day you’d show up in public like this with such a well-mannered young woman.”
Jamie let out a laugh beside me and touched my arm lightly.
“I’ll leave you two to talk business. Excuse me.”
I watched Jamie with my eyes for a few seconds as she walked away, before turning my attention back to Moreau.
We spoke briefly about the new partnership between Hart and Montclair Racing. Moreau made it clear he

was willing to move forward with the agreement, and we scheduled a meeting in New York to finalize the last details and make it official.
Simple. Direct. The way business should be.
When we finished, I looked around for Jamie.
She was alone, near the glass window overlooking the track. The wind lightly tousled her hair, and the sunlight reflecting off the glass highlighted every curve of her face.
I walked up to her, stopping just inches away, not looking her in the eyes.
“If you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to have to kiss you in front of everyone.”
She turned her face to me, a smile on her lips.
“And who said I was looking at you?”
“I know when you’re looking at me, Counselor.” I leaned in, my mouth near her ear. “Your face gets prettier when you see me.”
She let out a laugh and shoved my shoulder lightly.
“Conceited.”
I smiled but didn’t answer.
Jamie went back to looking at the track, and I should have done the same.
