FAKE DATING WITH BENEFITS MY BILLIONAIRE BOSS (Ophelia Corrigan) novel Chapter 47

CHAPTER 47

AMIE

55 volu

My head was pounding, my eyes burning, and I was pretty sure I’d gotten maybe three hours of sleep. Tops.

I stretched in my office chair, staring at the contract on my screen. The words were starting to blur together like they were written in a language I’d never learned. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, but my brain had officially clocked out.

“Rough night?”

I jumped so hard I nearly sent my coffee mug flying.

Elizabeth was standing in my doorway, arms crossed, expression a perfect mix of amusement and

accusation.

“You look like you went three rounds with a heavyweight champion,” she continued, stepping inside without waiting for an invitation. “And lost.”

“Good morning to you too, Elizabeth.” I rubbed my temples. “What do you want?”

She settled into the chair across from my desk, crossing one leg over the other with the kind of ease that said she had nowhere else to be. “I came to drop off the quarterly financial reports, but now I’m way more interested in those bags under your eyes.”

I waved a dismissive hand. “Didn’t sleep well.”

“Didn’t sleep at all, you mean.” She leaned forward, resting her elbows on my desk. “Because you were too busy with someone else.”

I coughed, nearly choking on my own spit. “Excuse me?”

Elizabeth smiled, clearly enjoying my discomfort.

“With all due respect, Elizabeth,” I said, forcing my voice to stay steady, “what I do with my nights is none of your business. Much less who I’m spending them with.”

“So you did spend the night with him?”

I frowned. “Wait, that’s not what you were implying?”

Her smile widened. “No, actually. I was just going to ask if you were with him because the whole office already knows he punched your ex and got arrested. Figured you’d been at the police station all night.” She paused, tilting her head. “But clearly that’s not what happened, is it?”

Shit.

“I didn’t say anything,” I muttered, sinking back into my chair.

“You didn’t have to.” Elizabeth laughed, warm and conspiratorial. “You just told me everything.”

I groaned, burying my face in my hands. “Elizabeth, please.”

elax, Jamie.” She stood, smoothing down her pencil skirt. “I was going to give you a hard time, but honestly? If anyone in this office deserves to get laid, it’s you. You work your ass off.” She paused at the door, looking over her shoulder with a wicked grin. “For God’s sake, let that pussy see the light of day once in a while.”

My jaw dropped.

“And don’t worry,” she added. “Your secret’s safe with me.”

She disappeared down the hall, and I let out a long, exhausted sigh.

Turning back to my laptop, I caught my reflection in the dark screen. My hair was a mess, my eyes had dark circles that looked more like bruises, and I could still see remnants of last night’s mascara clinging to my lashes.

I pulled a compact mirror from my drawer and dabbed concealer under my eyes as fast as I could, hoping to look at least slightly human before my next meeting.
