CHAPTER 49
AMIE
I stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around my body.
Not even the hot water had done a damn thing for the tension in my shoulders. I’d been wound up tight ever since I saw Simon smiling at his phone while he texted Abby.
And that smile kept fucking with my head.
I was still dripping across the living room when the doorbell rang.
I opened the door and found Simon leaning against the frame, looking obscenely good in a gray suit with no tie, his white shirt undone at the top two buttons.
In his hand, a massive bouquet of pale pink peonies and white roses.
I blinked.
“My mom’s going to love those,” I managed, my voice coming out a little breathier than I wanted.
Simon’s mouth curved into that slow, infuriating smile. “Actually, those are for you. Your mom’s bouquet is in the car. But these-” He glanced down at the flowers in his hand, then back at me. “These are for you. The peonies made me think of you.”
Shit.
I took the bouquet, our fingers brushing.
“Thanks,” I said, the word coming out awkward.
“You’re welcome.”
He just stood there, looking at me.
That’s when I realized the picture I made: practically naked, dripping on the floor, clutching flowers to my chest like some idiot bride.
“Come in,” I said, stepping back. “I need to put these in water.”
I headed for the kitchen and shoved the flowers into a vase. I heard his footsteps behind me.
“You’re early,” I said, still fussing with the flowers.
“Traffic was good.”
“Traffic in Manhattan is never good, Simon. Especially at this hour.”
“What can I say? I got lucky.”
When I turned around, he was right there.

back hit the counter.
“Actually,” he said, his voice dropping to a low rumble, “I couldn’t stand being away from you.”
I let out a nervous laugh.
“Sure. Right.”
He tilted his head.
“Why are you laughing?”
I opened my mouth to make a joke, then gave up.

“I’m serious, Jamie.” He put his hands on the counter on either side of me, caging me in. “I couldn’t wait to see you. I thought about you all day. Every minute. Every second.”
I rolled my eyes.
“That’s sweet, but-”
“I’m not being sweet.” His voice was flat. “I’m being honest.”
My smile died.
“Simon-”
He grabbed my waist and lifted me onto the counter.
The towel nearly slipped.
And then his mouth was on mine.
I grabbed his shirt and kissed him back without thinking. His tongue swept into my mouth, and a moan escaped before I could stop it.
“Simon,” I breathed, pulling back just enough to speak. “My mom. Dinner. We should-”
“We have thirty minutes.” His lips grazed my jaw. “More than enough time for a quick one.”
I was going to argue.
I didn’t get the chance.
He pulled the knot on my towel.
It fell.
I was naked on the counter, Simon between my thighs and his eyes devouring every inch of me.
“You’re ridiculous,” I managed, my voice breathless.

“Ridiculously turned on.” He shrugged off his jacket, tossing it somewhere behind him. “Same thing.”
unbuckled his belt with one hand, the other still gripping my hip, and I watched him free himself from his pants-watched him stroke himself once, twice, his eyes never leaving mine.
God.
He was already hard. Thick and long, the head flushed, and my body ached for him.
He positioned himself between my thighs, the head of his cock pressing against my wet center, and I spread wider, hooking my ankles around his waist.
“Filthy,” I whispered.
He answered by pushing inside me.
I gasped, my head falling back, my hands gripping his shoulders for balance. He filled me completely, that familiar stretch that made my toes curl and my eyes roll back. He was so deep, so thick, and I felt every inch of him as he held still inside me.
“Look at me,” he said, his voice low.
I opened my eyes.
There was something in his gaze I’d never seen before, something raw, something that made my breath catch. His jaw was tight, his pupils blown wide, and he was looking at me like I was the only woman in the
world.
What was that?
I couldn’t move. Couldn’t speak. Couldn’t do anything but look back at him, my heart pounding, my body aching, my mind screaming at me to remember that this wasn’t real, that it was just sex, that we had rules.
But the way he was looking at me…
“You’re so beautiful,” he murmured, his voice rough, almost broken. “So fucking beautiful.”
He started to move.
It was slow, deliberate, each thrust deeper than the last. He claimed every inch of me, and I felt every movement, every angle, every secret place inside me that only he seemed to find.
His mouth found my neck, my collarbone, my breasts, and I clung to him, my nails digging into his shoulders as pleasure built at my core like a wave about to break.
“Please,” I heard my own voice say. “Please, Simon, I’m going to-”
“Almost there?” His voice was rough against my ear. “Me too, baby. I’m right there with you.”
I shattered around him.
