CHAPTER 68
MIE
“The zipper got stuck,” I said quickly, my hands flying up in defense. “I asked him for help.”
“How noble of him,” Simon said, but there was nothing noble about the way his jaw tightened/
Ethan stepped back, his face burning. “I was just helping my boss, Mr. Hart.”
“I can see that.” Simon’s eyes stayed locked on me, raking over me with a possessive intensity that made my knees weak. “I think it’s time you got back to your desk, intern. Now.”
Ethan stammered something and scrambled past Simon, disappearing back toward his cubicle.
The bathroom door clicked shut, and suddenly it was just us-the two of us in that marble mausoleum. the air between us thick enough to choke on.
Simon was already moving, backing me against the counter. His forearms caged me in, boxing me against the cool stone. His eyes burned.
“What exactly did you think you were doing?” His voice was silk over steel. “Asking him for help.”
“I didn’t have options, there were no women around-”
“Bullshit.” The word came out as a whispered growl. “You could’ve called for someone else. Anyone else.”
“Simon-”
“The thought of his hands on you makes me want to break something.”
He was so close, his breath warm against my lips. The raw possessiveness rolling off him was intoxicating, a dizzying current I didn’t know how to navigate.
“Simon,” I breathed. “Please. Someone could walk in.”
“Let them.”
His hand came up to sweep my hair off my shoulder, baring my neck. His fingers skated across my collarbone, feather-light, leaving trails of fire in their wake.
“We’re in the office bathroom, Mr. Hart. You should keep your hands to yourself while we’re in here. Anyone could walk in at any moment.”
Before he could answer, he pressed me harder against the cold marble, his mouth finding that vulnerable spot behind my ear. I gasped and arched into him, my hands fisting in the fabric of his jacket.
“Looks like you’re not so great at keeping your hands to yourself in the office either, huh?”
He pulled back just enough to meet my eyes, one eyebrow arched, a hint of a smirk playing at his lips. His thumb traced the line of my jaw, slow and deliberate.
“Cat got your tongue?”

I swallowed hard, my voice barely a whisper. “You’re impossible.”
nd yet you’re still here.” His lips hovered a breath away from mine. “Not pushing me away.”
“Because you have me pinned against the sink.”
“Do I?” He pulled back just enough to prove his point, giving me space to escape. “Then move
I didn’t move.
Something dark and satisfied crossed his face. “That’s what I thought.”
His mouth descended, and I turned my head at the last second. His lips brushed my cheek instead, and he let out a low, frustrated sound against my skin.
“Stop running from me,” he murmured, his hand sliding to the nape of my neck, fingers curling into my hair.
“I’m not-”
“You are.” He tugged gently, tilting my face back toward his. “And I’m getting tired of it.”
“Simon, we’re at work-”
“I don’t care.”
His mouth found mine before I could argue again, and every rational thought scattered like leaves in a storm. His lips were hot, demanding, and I forgot how to breathe. The kiss was the kind that steals your balance and makes you grateful for the cold marble at your back because otherwise you’d collapse.
My fingers curled into his jacket, pulling him closer instead of pushing him away, and I felt him smile against my lips.
“There she is,” he murmured.
“Shut up.”
He laughed, low and rough, and kissed me again-filthier this time, his tongue tracing my bottom lip. asking for entry that I gave without hesitation. He tasted like mint and something darker, something addictive. Heat pooled low in my stomach, spreading through my veins like honey, slow and sweet and dangerous.
His hand slid down my side, gripping my hip, pulling me against him. I could feel every inch of him, hard and insistent, and the rational part of my brain was screaming that this was insane, that anyone could walk in, that-
The door swung open.
We sprang apart like we’d been electrocuted.
I stumbled sideways, nearly tripping over my own feet, my hip banging against the counter. Simon adjusted his tie with infuriating calm, straightening his cuffs like he hadn’t just been devouring my mouth two seconds ago.

The woman in the doorway froze, her mop bucket clanking against the frame. She was older, maybe early fifties, with tired eyes that went wide as saucers when she recognized the man in front of her.
“Schor Hart.” Her voice trembled. “I-lo siento, I didn’t mean to interrupt-”
Simon’s expression shifted into something polished and pleasant, like he’d flipped a switch. “Not a problem at all, Maria.” He gestured toward me with an easy smile. “My assistant was having some trouble with her zipper. I was just helping.”
