Victor’s phone rang. He looked down and saw Lillian’s name on the screen.
He was about to decline the call when Brandon somehow spotted it. He snatched the phone from Victor’s hand and answered.
“Lillian! Lillian, you’re at the company, right? I’m here too! Come out and see me, please? I really need to talk to you about something important. We’re brother and sister; you can’t just ignore me. Lillian, please come out, okay?”
Lillian had called Victor, so when she heard Brandon’s voice, she thought she was still half-asleep and had dialed the wrong number. She pulled the phone away from her ear to check the screen.
“No, that’s right. I called Victor.”
Brandon heard her on the other end. “Lillian, I’m right here at your company! Just come out and see me.”
“What are you doing at my company?” Lillian’s voice was sharp. “Brandon, are you even my brother? Did we come from the same mother? Why are you doing this to me? I can hear a lot of noise in the background. What’s going on? Why do you have Victor’s phone?”
Victor wasn’t about to let Brandon keep his phone. He grabbed it back.
“Hello, Ms. Mercer? When are you coming back? It’s chaos here. What should I do?”
“I just got back,” Lillian said calmly. “Alright, give the phone to Brandon. I’ll talk to him.”
She had seen some messages while she was away and knew what was happening, which was why she’d decided to come back early. Otherwise, she would have stayed to recuperate at the lab and Leonard's villa until next week.
Victor reluctantly handed the phone back to Brandon. “Ms. Mercer wants to talk to you.”
A relieved smile finally appeared on Brandon’s face. But before he could even speak, he was met with Lillian’s threatening tone. “Brandon, you have two minutes to leave my company. If you don’t, you will never get to discuss what you want to discuss. I don’t have time to waste on you right now. One hour from now, coffee shop downstairs from the Mercer Group building. I expect you to be there on time.”
Lillian hung up without waiting for a reply.
She had planned to rest at home, but Brandon’s antics at her office forced her hand. She didn’t want him disrupting her employees, so she agreed to meet him.
Lillian ignored it, moved to a different chair, and sat down on her own.
“Let’s hear it. What do you want? If it’s my company, the answer is no. I can’t give it to you. Anything else is also unlikely. I’ve already returned my shares in the Mercer Group to you. I recently received the notice of transfer. Since you’ve already taken back what was mine, I’d say we’re even. So don’t even think about coming after my company.”
Brandon latched onto the key part of her statement.
“What do you mean, ‘notice of transfer’? Lillian, you may have given back the shares, but they’re still there. They belong to you, and they always will. You hold a very important place in the Mercer family. From the day you were born, Grandma, Mom, and Dad were overjoyed. Colin and I are boys, but you were the only girl, and everyone doted on you.
You’ll always be a part of this family.
Please, don’t be like this. Brandon needs your help. I’m trying to develop a new line of business for the company, but I’ve hit a wall I can’t overcome. That’s why I came to you. Lillian, you have the ability, so why can’t you help your own family’s company?”
Lillian couldn’t help but laugh at his words. “Brandon, I cut ties with the Mercer Group a long time ago. When I returned those shares, I meant it. I don’t care what you do with them. But judging by your reaction, it seems you have no idea that the shares I returned have already been transferred to someone else, do you?”
