Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 216

The sight of Sabrina crying so pitifully shattered Martin's heart.

"What are you talking about?

The kids are being foolish, and a fight is just a fight.

You're my wife, and Bella is my daughter. My wealth is your wealth, and your daughter's too.

I'd give you my life, let alone a few shares.

Besides, these shares are a guarantee for you and Bella's future. How can you say you don't want them?

Our future child will need security as well. You might be carrying my child in your belly right now. I thought it all through when I gave you the shares. Those two brats won't make me waver in the slightest."

Martin was adamant about not taking back the shares.

Upstairs, Bella was leaning over the railing, listening carefully to the commotion below.

That was her mother, alright. Her technique, the perfectly timed, heart-wrenching little tears—it was the ultimate weapon against Martin.

Unfortunately, Sebastian would never fall for something like that, so she couldn't use it herself.

Still, watching her mother's prowess was an eye-opening experience.

With her mother around, did the Mercer family really stand a chance?

Bella scoffed at Martin's promises and turned back to her room.

How could she possibly return the shares she now held in her hands?

Her mother's strategy of feigning retreat to advance was brilliant.

But it also made one thing crystal clear to Bella.

The two Mercer brothers were, indeed, only concerned with their own interests.

It made sense, though. They could treat their own sister so cruelly, so how could they ever be genuinely kind to her?

She wasn't even their real sister. When it came to their interests, they would always prioritize themselves, without a care for whether she had an extra layer of security.

Bella thought to herself that if she didn't now hold a stake in the Mercer Group, she would absolutely refuse to help them.

She wouldn't put her heart and soul into the project the Blake Group was giving the Mercer family.

Although she was now displeased with the Mercer brothers, she still had to help the Mercer Group for the sake of her own interests.

Oh well. She would just consider it playing along with her mother's plan.

In the end, she would be the one to benefit.

Without a moment's delay, Colin called Brandon that night and told him what was happening at home.

After hearing the news, Brandon was too stressed to sleep a wink.

Lillian had no idea that such a small matter could throw the Mercer family into such turmoil. The seemingly iron-clad family unit was now starting to scheme against each other over a few shares.

The next morning, Brandon was once again waiting outside Lillian's company.

At the Mercer family breakfast table, Colin ate in silence, not saying a word. Sabrina offered him food as usual, but Colin didn't take it. Sabrina kept her smile, not saying anything, but her expression was clearly displeased.

Martin made a pronouncement: "Tell Brandon to stop being unreasonable. I have the company's affairs under control. We are all family here. It doesn't matter what last name someone has; if they're part of this family, the shares belong to them."

"Dad, you should probably tell Brandon that yourself when you get to the office," Colin replied. "I'm afraid I might not convey your meaning properly, and if there's a misunderstanding, it'll only make things worse."

With that, Colin put down his utensils and stood up. "Well, I'm full. I'm heading to the office."

Then he left.

Sabrina watched Colin's retreating back and sighed. "Martin, maybe you should just take back my shares. I don't want our family to be like this. Weren't things fine before? The atmosphere was so harmonious. I just want this family to be like it used to be. I don't care about money or shares. As long as I'm with you, that's enough."

Her words only made Martin fall deeper under her spell.

"Don't pay any attention to those rebellious kids. What's mine is yours. Let's see what they can do to me. I'm not dead yet. I still call the shots in this house."
