Mrs. Blake knew Lillian was a woman of ambition. The couple had been keeping an eye on her company, and while there wasn't much public news, they were well-connected enough to see some of her strategic moves. They knew she was incredibly busy. Her marital assets, though valuable, hadn't been mentioned in a long time. They naturally assumed that unless something significant had occurred, Lillian probably wouldn't have even remembered it.
“I gave the butler a look earlier,” Old Mr. Blake said. “We should have news soon. That ungrateful son of ours must have done something to provoke her.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the butler knocked on the door. He then reported on Sebastian taking Bella to the auction that day, and gave a detailed account of how Lillian had outbid everyone without blinking, willing to pay any price to secure the piece.
“So that’s what happened,” the old man said, his voice laced with anger. “That scoundrel is getting more and more out of line. He knows what state the Mercer family is in, yet he still flaunts that woman around town. He's completely clueless!”
“That Bella certainly is something,” Mrs. Blake remarked. “Even at a time like this, she can still get Sebastian to spend so much money on things for their wedding.”
“None of that matters. What’s important right now is Lillian. She didn't compete with Bella for anything at first, but for that final set of antique jewelry, she was willing to pay a ridiculous price to win it. It must be extraordinarily important to her. Could that jewelry be connected to her marital assets? Otherwise, knowing her personality, she probably wouldn't have thought about the marital assets for a while.”
So, early on Saturday morning, they went directly to Sebastian's private villa. Since Lillian's imprisonment, Sebastian had mostly lived there alone. The moment she was jailed, the maids had moved all her belongings to a guest room. After all, while Bella didn't live there at the time, she used the excuse of helping with the children to act as the de facto mistress of the house. With her around, she naturally didn't want to see any of Lillian's things.
Brandon had been busy with company matters and was no longer monitoring Sabrina's daily apology livestreams. She had been surprisingly compliant, streaming diligently every day, though the number of viewers dwindled with each passing day. The scandal was slowly fading from public discussion, while Brandon and his brother were focused on getting the company’s stock relisted, and were finally seeing a glimmer of hope.
“Isn't Ms. Ward still unwell? Why is she out and about today?” Brandon sneered under his breath. She was probably after Lillian's marital assets money, too.
