A gentle breeze blew past. The bear paused for two seconds before nodding.
It flipped to the next page.
[If someone hurt you deeply, what would it take for you to forgive them?]
Emilia gave the bear a strange look, but it just tapped the word [Survey] on the side of the notebook again.
It must be for some kind of relationship app, she thought.
After a moment of contemplation, Emilia said, “It would depend on the situation. If it was a specific incident, then that incident would need to be resolved.”
“And an apology. A sincere one.”
She paused for a moment before adding, “But… some people, and some things, can never be forgiven.”
The bear seemed lost in thought. Then, it flipped to the next page.
[What if the person who hurt you had their own difficult circumstances? Would you forgive them?]
Difficult circumstances?
Emilia let out a soft, mirthless laugh.
She remembered how Tyler always talked about his reasons.
She didn’t know what his impossible situation was.
But the harm was done. The pain was real.
The things she had lost, the child she had lost, would never come back.
Emilia hugged Bella tighter, her other hand resting gently on her own stomach.
There was a very real possibility she would never have a child of her own.
Thank God, she thought. Thank God I have Bella.
Her eyes reddened slightly.
But Emilia quickly composed herself. She looked away from the bear, her gaze fixed on the rustling leaves of a nearby tree.
“No,” she said.
The bear froze. He stood there, motionless, not turning the page.
A gentle breeze blew as Bella yawned in Emilia’s arms.
The dim yellow streetlights illuminated the quiet street.
No one spoke. The only sound was the soft rustling of leaves in the wind.
