And to top it all off, Vivienne's illness had been a lie.
His heart filled with hatred.
How dare she deceive him!
She fed him false information, making him tolerate her behavior time and time again!
He hated Vivienne, and he hated his own stupidity.
Tyler clenched his fist around the tanzanite.
He placed a call to Israel.
Israel answered quickly.
"Mr. Erickson," Israel's voice came through, the background buzzing with noise.
"What's the status?" Tyler asked directly.
Israel glanced at the people following him and stepped into an empty stairwell.
"We're currently forcing Vivienne to undergo a series of tests. She's being very uncooperative," Israel reported. "But you can rest assured, Mr. Erickson. I'll get it done. She has no choice but to be examined."
"When can we get the results?" Tyler pressed.
"Within a day. Tonight at the earliest," Israel replied.
It was almost certain Vivienne was faking it, so all they needed was confirmation that she didn't have cancer. If he pushed, the results would come quickly.
Israel understood that everyone was waiting for the final word.
Even if they knew in their hearts, they still needed that definitive proof.
"Good," came Tyler's voice from the other end.
Then the line went dead.
Israel put his phone away, noticed a reporter peeking around the corner, and left the stairwell.
He went to check on Vivienne.
At that moment, Vivienne was screaming and struggling.
She refused to have her blood drawn, refused a CT scan, and refused an ultrasound.
She resisted everything.
But the people Israel had brought with him held her down and forced her through the procedures.
When Vivienne saw Israel walk in, she shrieked, "Israel, you can't force me! What you're doing is illegal!"
Israel just gave a cold smile.
But with her being held, his calls wouldn't go through.
Online speculation was spiraling out of control.
It was all very damaging for Vivienne.
Finally, after a long wait, a message from Vivienne came through.
And so, Jack made his move.
Until now, the online discussion had been focused on Vivienne faking her illness, digging deeper and deeper into her past actions.
They found more and more dirt the further they dug.
But then, Jack entered the fray.
And just like that, the tide of public opinion began to turn.
"Vivienne is still undergoing tests. Nothing has been confirmed about her health. How can people say such things about her?"
"Even if Vivienne isn't really sick, does that change the fact that her actions were real?"
"Today's charity sale, speaking up for sick children at the gala, encouraging patients on 'Voice of the Divine,' using her personal social media to give people strength... Vivienne did all of those things. Those were real, tangible acts."
"Everything we saw today was just a personal matter between her and Emilia. It doesn't negate the good she's done."
