The agreed-upon time was ten o'clock sharp, in the CEO's office at The Erickson Group.
Emilia and Theodore arrived in the lobby of the building at nine-forty.
Over the past few days, both Emilia and Vivienne had been submitting their final performance metrics to the audit team appointed by the elder Ericksons.
At the stroke of midnight, Emilia had handed over her final batch of documents.
Just two days prior, The Glenn Group had launched another new product line, a project she had been heavily involved in.
Vivienne had also submitted her final data after completing the massive influx of orders Tyler had previously secured for her.
Emilia tilted her head back, gazing up at the towering glass facade—the tallest skyscraper in Alden City.
The Erickson Building.
Once upon a time, she had poured countless days and nights, years of her life, and her brilliant youth into this very place.
From midnight until this exact moment, the audit team had been crunching the numbers without a break.
They surely had the final verdict by now.
Emilia hoped she had won.
Even though Tyler had promised to return the Dennis family's assets to her regardless of the outcome, she much preferred the security of winning them back with her own two hands.
Even if the Ericksons were the ones acting as the judges for this wager.
Feeling a warm hand wrap around hers, Emilia pulled her gaze away from the building and looked up at Theodore.
"I'm going up with you," Theodore stated firmly.
In the past, he would always wait for her in the lobby downstairs to respect boundaries and avoid fueling any gossip. But now, he was standing by her side.
He absolutely refused to let her face the people standing against her alone.
"Okay," Emilia murmured.
Meanwhile, on the top floor.
Tyler was already in the office, seated in his wheelchair, staring blankly out the massive floor-to-ceiling windows.
His injuries hadn't fully healed, but the wheelchair allowed him to make an appearance.
Vivienne was standing nearby.
The past few days had been pure hell for her.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Emilia produced the original wager agreement.
"I brought the contract," Emilia said, looking directly at Parker.
Parker let out a long, weary sigh, his expression complicated as he looked at her.
"Emilia, you know that I only ever acknowledged you as family," Parker said, his gaze briefly darting to Theodore standing steadfastly beside her.
Emilia lowered her eyes slightly, her face an unreadable mask.
"Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Erickson," Emilia replied, her tone polite but unmistakably distant. "I look forward to maintaining a professional working relationship moving forward. Strictly business."
She hadn't spoken a single cruel word, yet her absolute detachment drew a brutal, uncrossable line in the sand. There was no room for negotiation.
Everyone in the room fully understood her meaning.
Parker's voice sounded impossibly old as he finally nodded.
"Alright. Alright," Parker muttered, though there was nothing alright about it.
Tyler stared at Emilia's profile, his eyes stinging with unshed tears.
Vivienne opened her mouth to snap something, but catching sight of Israel looming nearby, she quickly swallowed her words and shrank back.
