Two luxury SUVs sped down the highway.
Emilia and Theodore rode in the lead vehicle, with Tyler following closely in the second.
Both cars were making a beeline for the police precinct.
The caregiver was riding shotgun in Emilia's car, shifting nervously in her leather seat.
Theodore noticed her anxiety and spoke up. "Your main priority is getting out of Alden City and safely back to Solmaris. Rest assured, regardless of what Tyler decides to do, I will make that happen."
"You're well aware of The Glenn Group's reputation in Solmaris, which is exactly why you brought us into this deal."
"And,"
Theodore locked eyes with the caregiver through the rearview mirror.
The usually warm, approachable man now possessed a quiet, terrifying authority.
He finished his thought with dangerous calm. "I am the only one who can protect you."
The woman opened her mouth to argue but snapped it shut.
She knew he was right.
Ever since she leaked the first audio clip at Vivian Floral Atelier, she had a target on her back. With Vivienne's ruthless track record, if she was caught, she'd end up in a body bag.
That was why she had been living out of cheap motels for days.
Tyler was merely her backup plan because she couldn't gauge where his loyalties lay.
He claimed to love Emilia, yet continually let Vivienne manipulate him. She wasn't about to put her life in the hands of a man who might cave and hand her over to a psychopath.
Theodore, however, controlled the global shipping lines and was fiercely loyal to Emilia. He was the safest bet.
She had only brought Tyler in to force Theodore's hand.
Resigned, she gave a stiff nod and glued her eyes back to her phone screen.
Having handled the loose end, Theodore turned his attention back to Emilia.
She was staring out the passenger window, watching the city blur past.
Her reflection was visible in the tinted glass.
On the surface, she looked perfectly composed, but he could sense the explosive, devastating fury radiating off her.
