Tyler felt like all the oxygen had been sucked out of the room.
His brain completely shut down.
He didn't dare to think about it.
He couldn't even process the implications.
In that split second, the entire world felt like one massive, grotesque joke.
"Mr. Erickson? Mr. Erickson, are you alright?" Israel's anxious voice broke through the silence.
Tyler looked up blankly at the panicked Israel standing in the hallway. None of this felt real.
"Boss?" Israel's voice cracked with panic. "Say something, please, you're scaring me..."
After what felt like an eternity, Tyler finally reacted. "Is the intel accurate?"
Israel nodded vigorously. "I confirmed it with Detective Cynthia. They used a composite sketch, then cross-referenced it with similar photos. It's definitely Eugene."
Tyler looked down, mechanically flipping through the documents in his hand, functioning purely on instinct.
Eugene and Vivienne knew each other.
They were incredibly close.
So when exactly did they meet?
If it was before that incident, then...
Tyler's lips pressed into a thin, bloodless line. As he flipped through the pages, his haggard silhouette stretched unnaturally in the dim light.
Israel caught on to Tyler's train of thought and carefully explained, "Boss, these projects here were all handled by Eugene, and they're all connected to Vivienne."
"They..." Israel couldn't even bear to finish the sentence.
Taking a deep breath, he forced the words out. "They've known each other for a long time."
"Way before Vivienne ever started supplying flowers to your office."
Hearing Israel's words, Tyler paused for just a fraction of a second before continuing to flip through the files.
They had been sleeping together long before.
Not on the day of the rendezvous...
Back then, there had been an adjoining room with men's voices.
According to Vivienne's story, they had all been in on it together...
When they realized the woman wasn't Emilia, they got angry and took it out on her.
Tyler hadn't overthought it at the time. Prior to the incident, Eugene had already been called in multiple times for internal investigations regarding embezzlement and corruption. The company had been preparing to fire him and press charges.
Because of the massive sums of money involved, along with the leakage of core company secrets, Eugene was very likely looking at serious prison time.
It made perfect sense that a desperate Eugene would try to extort and take revenge on Tyler and Emilia one last time before fleeing the country.
And Vivienne just happened to be delivering documents for Emilia at that exact moment.
When a man is already destined for prison, adding one more crime to the list wouldn't phase him.
