Vivienne kept her head down, crying and avoiding Tyler's gaze.
"I'll be so good," she sobbed. "Or you can just send me abroad. I'll stay out of the country for the rest of my life. I'll never come back and get between you two again."
Her best-case scenario was for him to ship her out of the country immediately.
If that didn't work, she figured offering to explain things to Emilia was the perfect bait. She didn't believe Tyler would refuse that offer.
As long as she could get back above ground and have just a few moments of freedom on the bustling streets, she could find a way to escape.
But Tyler didn't say a word.
His silence made Vivienne uneasy.
While still pretending to cry, she sneakily peeked up at him.
What she saw was a face so twisted by an explosive cocktail of emotions that it barely looked human.
Vivienne froze, completely forgetting to keep up her fake sobbing.
"Tyler..."
Suddenly, Tyler let out a low, gravelly chuckle. His eyes were completely bloodshot, and his voice sounded like it was crawling up from the depths of hell.
"Everything can go back to normal?" he repeated hoarsely.
Once upon a time, he had desperately believed that, too.
But could they really go back?
Between him and Emilia lay the corpse of their unborn child.
Even if Vivienne was the one who orchestrated it, he was the one who had physically shoved Emilia.
And he hadn't even looked back, let alone visited her afterward.
"Yes, it will! It will!" Vivienne insisted frantically. "I'll explain everything. I'll tell her the agonizing reasons behind your actions."
"Emilia is a woman, too. She'll understand the hell I went through taking the fall for her back then. She'll realize you only did it because you were trying to protect her."
Seeing Tyler's terrifying smile persist, Vivienne rambled faster, her words spilling out in a panic.
"And the baby! The baby, too," Vivienne babbled. "Just tell her I did it. Tell her it had nothing to do with you."
