Seeing so many people arrive, Celeste suddenly realized her miscalculation. She had assumed it would be a small, intimate gathering and hadn’t expected Damian to invite such a sizable group.

Noting Celeste’s choice of attire, Damian’s brow furrowed slightly. Isabelle pretended not to notice the mismatch. She offered Celeste a brief, polite greeting before heading inside to find Brian.

“I really want to take you home properly, but today was a bit of an ambush. Don’t be mad. My dad invited Mr. Cross and Isabelle first, and then he invited you. If you don’t believe me, ask Isabelle. We have a get–together here every year!” Brian’s tone was a mix of pleading and playful insistence.

Diana knew they did have an annual gathering at the ranch, so his father was accustomed to meeting Brian’s friends and colleagues. Frank always made a point of being hospitable to all of Brian’s guests. So, his father seeing Diana there wasn’t inherently unusual.

Frank generally considered his son something of a free spirit and was just glad he had good friends–let alone a girlfriend. If she were to become part of the family someday, he’d be even more delighted.

Seeing Diana fall silent, Brian gently pinched her chin and kissed her, not hesitating to deepen the kiss.

Startled, Diana tried to push him away again.

“Come on, sweetheart. Just one proper kiss, that’s all I’m asking…”

Diana was genuinely exasperated by this man. She was worried someone might see them, which would be a disaster!

That was what she told herself, even as she found her resistance melting away under Brian’s persistent affection. Within moments, she had softened in his arms.

Brian knew the layout of his family’s property well. While kissing her, he guided her to a secluded corner and gently pressed her against the wall. Some ornamental shrubs partly screened them from view, making it easy to miss them if you weren’t looking carefully.
