Blaze allowed a small smile. He found her current state rather endearing and made no move to stop her.
“Mr. Wilder,” Frank said, handing him a heavy stainless–steel tumbler filled about halfway with homemade spirits.
He accepted it naturally. “Thank you.”
“Mr. Wilder, the wedding is still a ways off. Can you please stop shadowing me?” Sienna grumbled, her irritation fueled by the alcohol.
She had only met this man a handful of times, and now she was supposed to marry him?
Originally, the situation had been manageable. But then some opportunist had circulated photos from the day Blaze was seen leaving her room wearing only a towel. It had become impossible to explain away.
“I’m keeping you company, not shadowing you. That would be shadowing.” Blaze countered, tilting his chin slightly toward Damian and Isabelle, who were wrapped up in each other.
Isabelle was pleasantly tipsy, nestled in Damian’s arms as the two murmured to each other.
Seeing she couldn’t shake him, Sienna decided to leave. She stood up carefully, determined not to stumble and give this man any excuse to catch her.
Blaze took a slow sip of the strong liquor, the burn steadying him, and followed her as she walked away.
“Blaze, I don’t want your company. Don’t follow me. Go find someone else. I’m going to my room to sleep. Find your own place to stay,” Sienna insisted, the world tilting gently around her.
Despite the buzz, her mind was clear on one point–this man’s intentions were far from simple.
Blaze kept pace beside her, remaining silent.
He just wanted to be near her for a while, even if no words were exchanged.
Sienna quickened her unsteady pace, and Blaze matched it effortlessly.
Maddox watched from a short distance as the two figures moved toward the guest lodges,

one trailing the other. His frown deepened. It felt like watching a prized thoroughbred being casually led away by an outsider.
The thought annoyed him. Especially when he saw Blaze reach out to steady Sienna as she wavered, pulling her briefly against his side.
“For God’s sake…” Maddox muttered under his breath. “He really is something else…”
Sienna braced her hands against Blaze’s shoulders to regain her balance. She was struck by how rigid he felt–tense all over.
Meanwhile, she felt boneless, softened by the alcohol and unable to muster any proper strength.
“Blaze! You’re a creep!” Sienna exclaimed, shoving weakly at his chest before stumbling back
Blaze carefully released her, keeping his hands up and ready to catch her if she fell.
“It’s a physiological reaction, Sienna,” he said, his voice unexpectedly rough. He didn’t fully understand why this slight contact with her had affected him so…
He hadn’t intended anything.
He swallowed hard, forcing his composure back.
Sienna, now thoroughly alarmed, shrank back against a wooden support
beam.
Not wanting to frighten her further, Blaze took two deliberate steps back and called out for Isabelle to come help.
By the time Isabelle arrived, Damian was right behind her.
Sienna was clinging to the beam, her eyes glistening with unshed tears as she stared warily at the man before her.
“Let’s get you to bed,” Isabelle said, moving to support her friend.
“He won’t stop following me…” Sienna whimpered, latching onto Isabelle.
Isabelle patted her back soothingly. “It’s alright. He won’t follow you now.”
“Then you sleep in my room tonight…”
Damian’s thoughts were
loud and clear. Over my dead body. Tonight is ours.

Blaze looked on, the picture of innocent frustration. I really didn’t do a thing.

“Okay, okay. I’ll stay with you,” Isabelle reassured her gently and guided her back toward the guest rooms.
Damian let out a long–suffering sigh and shot Blaze a sidelong glance.
“Come on, Mr. Wilder. Let’s have that drink,” Damian said, his tone implying it was less an invitation and more a summons.
“Sure.” Blaze agreed, his gaze lingering on Sienna’s retreating figure for a moment too long
“Mr. Wilder, you’re gonna scare her off for good with this act.” Damian’s voice was sharp with irritation.
If Blaze hadn’t shown up, tonight would’ve been his night–his chance for a fun, laid–back evening. Ruined, just like that. Total lack of manners.
“Sorry.” Blaze took a slow sip of his drink.
Isabelle settled Sienna back in her room.
They had both worked up a sweat riding earlier, and now Sienna smelled of woodsmoke and spirits. She decided to take a quick shower.
