“To be honest, Grandpa, no matter what you choose, you won’t be able to please everyone. Any decision you make will leave someone feeling it’s unfair–so why force yourself to make one at all? Aunt and Uncle have no interest in the business, Jonathan even less so, and Mom doesn’t need it either.”
When it came down to it, the only one fighting and scrambling over it was Sophia.
Isabelle went on, “You’re about to retire–wouldn’t it be better to just relax and enjoy life?
Christian listened quietly, taking in her words.
“You sound just like your husband.”
“Huh?” Isabelle was caught off guard. “He…?”
“He came to see me a couple of days ago and gave me a suggestion.” Christian smiled gently. “I wanted to ⚫ hear your thoughts today, and it turns out you two really are on the same page–even your way of putting
things is similar.”
Isabelle felt her cheeks grow warm and didn’t reply.
She hadn’t expected Damian to have known about all this days ago–and he hadn’t said a word to her.
He was already swamped with preparations for the company’s IPO, yet he’d still made time to help sort out this family situation.
When Christian first heard Damian’s suggestion, he’d been hesitant. But then Jonathan had brought it up too, though indirectly.
Now, hearing Isabelle echo the same sentiment made him even more certain about what to do next. Not far away, Sophia watched them chatting easily, her stomach tightening with anxiety.
That evening, they ended up staying overnight at Cross Manor,
Jonathan had some business to take care of and wasn’t planning to stay over, but he hadn’t left yet.
Abigail decided to stay with her family for a few more days, and Sophia remained as well.
Up on the rooftop terrace, the women gathered again to talk, while the men retreated to the study for whiskey and conversation.
Sophia made an excuse to slip away from the group and returned to her room.
She changed into a slinky red nightgown and waited quietly behind her door.
The men talked for a long time before finally wrapping up and heading to their rooms.

Sophia had nearly dozed off waiting by her door.
But
But her patience paid off–the door to Damian and Isabelle’s room was slightly ajar.
Since neither Isabelle nor Abigail had come upstairs yet, the person inside had to be Damian.
Her face flushed; she clenched her fists, wrestling with whether to go through with it.
No man could resist her–at least, that was what she told herself.
Even though she didn’t actually like Damian.

She stepped out of her room and walked toward his. Pushing the half–open door wider, she slipped inside and flipped off the lights.
The moonlight was fairly bright, faintly illuminating a man in the suite’s sitting area taking off his dress shirt.
Without hesitation, she walked over and wrapped her arms around his waist from behind.
“Dami…”
The man went still.
When he didn’t move, Sophia lifted her head slightly, took the shirt from his hands, and laid it over the back of the sofa. She turned to face him, rose on her toes, and leaned in to kiss him.
The man pressed a finger firmly against her forehead and pushed her back.
Just then, the lights in the room came on.
Damian stood in the doorway, taking in the scene.
Jonathan’s face was dark, his gaze icy as it landed on Sophia in her revealing red slip.
Earlier, while having drinks, Jonathan had spilled some on his shirt. Since he hadn’t planned to stay over. he hadn’t brought a change of clothes–so he’d borrowed an outfit from Damian and come to his room to change.
He never expected Sophia would be this desperate. A woman in her early twenties, bold enough to pull something like this–trying to sneak into another man’s room, a married man, no less!
“Wait outside,” Jonathan said to Damian at the door.
Without a word, Damian stepped out and closed the door behind him.
Jonathan picked up the clean clothes nearby and began dressing calmly.
“Jonathan… what are you doing here?” Sophia was terrified, trembling all over.
That’s what I should be asking you.” Jonathan held back his anger. “Did you forget everything I said to you
