He looked down at the dessert in his hand and was about to head back to the car when Brian called out to him.

“You could’ve at least said hello when you showed up,” Brian said, rinsing his hands, drying them off, and walking over.

“I did call you last night, but you didn’t pick up. And now you’re skipping work to come play farmer.”

Not that much actual farming was getting done.

“Ah, it’s no big deal,” Brian replied, reaching out for the dessert in Damian’s hand.

Damian pulled it back, not letting him take it.

“This is for my wife. Want some? Go get your own.”

“I’m the one who helped you win her over, and you won’t even spare a slice of cake?”

“I already paid you for that. If you want dessert, you pay too,” Damian shot back, giving him sideways glance.

Damian had actually arranged for a cleaning crew to tidy up the studio, but Brian sent them away, saying he’d rather handle it himself.

When Isabelle and Diana arrived at the café, they happened to spot Ashley sitting with Wilbur.

Isabelle vaguely remembered Wilbur–he was the new design department manager who started right after she had resigned.

She didn’t plan on going over to say hello. Instead, she and Diana found a quiet table, and got two coffees along with two slices of cake.

“Did things finally explode between you two?” Diana couldn’t help glancing toward Ashley.

“No. She’s been calm… almost too calm. It’s kind of unsettling, honestly.”

It was the first time Isabelle had ever felt intimidated by another woman.

After that time Ashley unexpectedly helped her in the restroom and then walked off without another word—and then acted distant whenever they crossed paths at events–Isabelle started to think Ashley hadn’t moved on. If anything, she’d only sunk deeper.
