Chapter 285 Breakfast Tension
“Noticed you ladies didn’t eat much at the dinner,” Collin said, standing at her hotel som door. “Thought you might need a late- night bite” He held out a small bakery box.
Isabelle accepted the box with a polite smile. “Thanks.”
“Night.” he said, not making a move to stay.
“Goodnight,” she replied, closing the door a little quicker than necessary.
She leaned against it and exhaled.

Brushing her teeth and scrolling through her phone, she saw several texts from Diana had come in overnight.
Diana’s mom had taken a bad turn and was admitted to the hospital. Diana had driven back into the city around midnight.
Isabelle typed back a few reassuring lines.
“Don’t sweat it. I’ve got things here. We’re basically done anyway–just final lookovers. You focus on your mom. Try not to worry too much.”
“You’re a lifesaver. Truly.”
“Oh, it’s definitely work. You owe me a serious spa day when I get back. BTW, that dessert last night was amazing. Way better than our usual spots.” Isabelle found herself adding a bit more chatter.
“Dessert? What dessert?” Diana replied.
Isabelle paused, the toothbrush still in her mouth.
So, Collin had gone out and gotten that specifically for her?
After a quick shower and change, she headed out of her room.
As she stepped into the hallway, Collin’s door opened at the same time.
“Morning,” he said.
“Morning.” Isabelle returned, a beat too late.
They walked to the elevator with little conversation, heading up to the hotel’s rooftop restaurant for the breakfast buffet.
It was already busy, with a line forming at the omelet station.
Collin spotted an open table by the window. “Why don’t you grab that? I’ll get our food. These tables go fast.”
Isabelle scanned the crowded room and nodded. “Okay.”
He gave her a quick smile before joining the buffet line.
Isabelle kept her breakfast light: an omelette, a glass of milk, and half an ear of corn.
