Isabelle noticed his expression.
“Where on earth did you find this bodyguard? What’s his story?” Collin couldn’t help but voice his frustration.

Isabelle offered a small, apologetic smile. “Damian helped him out years ago during a deployment near the border. He’s been with him ever since—it’s been quite a while.”
“Seems a few cards short of a full deck.”
“He sustained an injury back then, but there’s nothing wrong with his mind,” Isabelle clarified, settling onto the living room sofa
Collin reclined in a nearby armchair.
Beside him was a small bowl of fruit Bruce had washed and arranged.

About half an hour later, the savory aroma of a meal began drifting from the kitchen.
“Mrs. Cross, lunch is ready,” Bruce announced, untying the apron from around his neck.
Isabelle glanced toward the kitchen, then back at Collin.
“Should I bring a plate over to you here?” she asked.
Collin managed a slight grin. “That would be nice.”
But Bruce was quicker. He loaded a generous portion onto a dinner plate and carried it over, placing it carefully on the side tante next to the fruit bowl.
“Mr. Dorfman, do you need assistance eating?” Bruce asked, his expression completely earnest

“You’re welcome,” Bruce replied, his tone still dripping with concern. “Are you sure you don’t need help
Collin shot him a look that could curdle milk, his jaw tight. “I’m sure!”
What was this guy’s game?
Trying to send him to an early grave?
After that, Bruce didn’t hover. He turned to Isabelle. “Mrs. Cross, your lunch is on the table.”
“Alright,” Isabelle nodded, then asked Collin, “Will someone be staying with you tonight?”
If not, she thought privately, perhaps Bruce could be persuaded to stay.

Collin’s eyes flicked toward Bruce, irritation flashing anew. He was genuinely worried Isabelle might suggest leaving Bruce behind
“Henry will be staying over later. Don’t worry about it.”
If you’re that concerned, you could always stay and keep me company yourself. He thought but didn’t dare say if he did. Bruce wou undoubtedly chime in with, “I’ll handle it, no need to trouble Mrs. Cross.”
And then, in the dead of night, Damian–that insufferable show–off/would probably video call, predictably shirtless jest to their relationship right in his face.
It was decidedly not worth the aggravation.
“Okay, good,” Isabelle said, visibly relieved.
