In her dream, the man who was so reluctant to let her go stood behind her. He wrapped his arms around her waist, rested his chin on her shoulder, and affectionately nuzzled her cheek before gazing tenderly at the little baby in her arms.
“Sweetheart, call me Daddy,” the man said, a broad, happy smile on his face.
“She’s far too little to talk,” Isabelle giggled, tilting her head back to look at the man behind her.
The man’s warm kiss found her lips, and they became entangled right there, in front of their infant daughter.
When the elevator shuddered to a halt at the bottom of the shaft, Isabelle was curled tightly in Collin’s arms, her own arms wrapped protectively around her abdomen.
Her face was pale, a fine sheen of sweat on her forehead. Her hands, clutching the fabric of her skirt, were bone–white.
The kind of primal panic and fear she felt was something she had never experienced before.
Regardless of everything else, with this new life–a piece of Celeste–growing inside her, she had found a profound sense of purpose and a deep, anchoring worry in her heart.
When she had thrown herself into Collin’s arms, she hadn’t overthought it. Her sole desire was for the baby’s safety. Without a thought for propriety, she had simply sought shelter.
With her in his arms, Collin couldn’t help the slight curl at the corner of his mouth. He held her carefully, shielding her head and the curve of her lower abdomen.
He did everything he could to make her feel secure.
It had only been a drop of two floors. In reality, it hadn’t caused them much physical harm.
“It’s alright. We’re safe now,” Collin murmured, his voice a low, steady comfort near her ear.
He slowly loosened his hold. His dress shirt was damp against his chest–he couldn’t tell if it was from her sweat or her tears.
“Are you hurt?” he asked.
She was so close. Her subtle, delicate fragrance drifted toward him–an utterly intoxicating scent.
୮
He had noticed it once before when he’d carried her to the hospital, but he hadn’t paid it much mind then. Now, he found he liked it immensely.
It was a scent that seemed to calm the nerves.
Isabelle’s senses returned to her, and she carefully relaxed her grip.
Only then did she realize how feverishly warm Collin was. It wasn’t a normal body temperature. It felt like he was running a temperature, or perhaps…
She couldn’t help but let her gaze drift downward for a split second.
“Isabelle, you should call for help,” Collin said, lowering his eyelids, effectively pulling the woman’s wandering attention back.

Chapter 325 À Terrifying Flevator Accident
He hadn’t brought his phone upstairs, but !sabelle had hers.
He knew what she had been wondering. She was a married woman; she understood these things.
isabelle felt her cheeks grow warm and gave a soft “Mhm.” As she tried to stand, she found her legs were weak and her hands still trembling. She lost her balance and stumbled forward, falling against Collin once more.
“Hngh-” he let out a muffled grunt.
Isabelle’s hand had landed squarely on his thigh….
She scrambled back in alarm, curling into herself in the opposite corner.
“I’m sorry…”
Collin’s expression darkened in the gloom. He seemed profoundly mortified that his physical reaction might trave been noticed.
‘Take your time. There’s no hurry,” Collin said, though he wasn’t entirely sure who he was advising to be calm–her or himself.
The two of them sat in silence on opposite sides of the small, dark space.
sabelle pulled out her phone and called Bonita, who was outside the building.
Diana had gone to Nyxaria today to deliver a large order for Hazel. Originally, Isabelle was supposed to make the delivery, but in her current condition, travel was out of the question.
When Stefan and Hazel in Nyxaria heard about the situation with Damian, they made some discreet inquiries, learned of Isabelle’s
regnancy, and hadn’t insisted on her coming.
So, Diana had gone in her place.
Bruce had driven her to the airport, so both of them were gone.
That was why Collin had felt comfortable visiting today.
After Isabelle’s call, Bonita immediately phoned emergency services.
Are you sure you’re alright?” Collin asked Isabelle again.
sabelle did a quiet internal check. At least everything felt dry; there shouldn’t be any serious issue.
‘I’m fine. What about you?” Isabelle turned her head slightly toward the man’s silhouette.

It was pitch black inside the elevator. She couldn’t make out his expression clearly, and she didn’t dare move any closer.
At this moment, he felt more perilous than the broken elevator.
“I’m okay,” he replied.
After that brief exchange, a heavy silence fell.
