Chapter 327 Silent Tears

The doctor said bed rest for a couple of days should be sufficient. If everything feels fine, I can go home,Isabelle reassured them.

She really didn’t want to just lie here being waited on.

Matilda walked back into the room. There was a bit of spotting, but not much. The baby is stable and everything looks good, but you really need to take it easy for the next few days. Limit your movementstrict bed rest is best. And try to keep your emotions as calm as possible.

Okay.Isabelle nodded.

After all the stress, she was exhausted. She rested for a while and soon drifted off to sleep.

The room fell quiet.

Damian had been waiting quietly by the door and only stepped inside once he was sure she was asleep.

He gently brushed a strand of hair from the woman’s cheek, slipped his hand under the blanket to rest it over her abdomen, then eaned down and pressed a lingering kiss to her forehead.

His gaze was steady and deep, like a shaft of winter sunlightgentle yet carrying a quiet intensity, his eyes full of a helpless tenderness.

He didn’t dare stay long.

According to Susie, she hadn’t been sleeping well lately, often getting up for water in the middle of the night.

He gave her small hand a squeeze, fastened a simple, braided red cord around her wrista silent wish for protectionthen slipped out as quietly as he had come.

The door closed softly behind him.

Isabelle turned over, facing away from the door, and slowly opened her eyes.

As her clear eyes focused, a single tear traced a path across the bridge of her nose, fell onto the pillow, soaked into the cotton, and vanished into the existing damp patch.

Her forehead still seemed to hold the phantom warmth of his fervent kiss.

She placed a hand over her belly and whispered, That was your daddy. Did you feel it?

A faint, sorrowful smile touched her lips before fading, replaced by silent, steady tears.

If not for all thishow perfect everything could have been.

Ashley waited in a secluded booth at a quiet café, but Isabelle never appeared. Ashley’s hands, which had begun to look slightly weathered, clenched into fists under the table. She gritted her teeth, and beneath the brim of her baseball cap, her eyes hardened with frustration.

Why hadn’t Isabelle come?

She Should be furious!

What woman could possibly tolerate something like this?

Had she somehow seen through it?

Ashley picked up her glass of ice water, her hand trembling slightly as she took a sip, her fingertips white where they gripped the

cold surface.

She was desperately calculating her next move.

She had been so sure Isabelle would be too enraged to let it go and would bring people to confront her.

Isabel e had always been that typeshe held onto grievances and never simply let things slide.

But this time, there had been no sign of her at all.

What was Isabelle playing at?

She hadn’t filed for divorce or moved out of the villa. Instead, she carried on with her work as usual, as if nothing could truly shake her except the sight of Damian himself.

What kind of person was she, really?

Ashley swallowed hard, trying to force herself to stay composed.

Ever since she’d slipped away from Brian, she’d been living on edge, hiding in a dingy little rental apartment in a rough part of

own, feeling like a fugitiveeven going out for coffee required constant vigilance.

And Damianhe didn’t seem to be looking for her at all.

Why was that?

She stayed at the café for another half hour, but Isabelle still didn’t show.

Finally, she gave up and returned to her old, dilapidated apartment building

She didn’t notice the man in a black windbreaker and a dark baseball cap who had been following her.

Just as she unlocked her door and stepped inside, a foot blocked it from closing.

in an instant, it was pushed open. The man pressed her against the inside of the door, clamping a large hand firmly over her mouth.

Click.The lock engaged.

Ashley was trapped between the unyielding door and the tall man’s frame, her wrists pinned behind her back.

Don’t make a sound, the man said, his voice a low, familiar rasp near her ear. Unless you want company.

Ashley’s trembling eyelashes fluttered shut she thought she recognized the voice.

She went still, ceasing her struggle.
