It was as if Ashley’s carefully constructed façade had been stripped away, leaving her last shred of pretense exposed and her true intentions laid bare before Isabelle.
She struggled to maintain her composure, refusing to let Isabelle’s words pull her off balance.
“What does any of this have to do with him?” Ashley couldn’t grasp it.
Both Damian and Isabelle seemed to have moved past the incident entirely. The waves she had tried to create had sunk without a trace, failing to disturb the surface at all.
Isabel e’s eyes drifted to Ashley’s midsection, where the subtle curve of early pregnancy was just visible. Though she was no expert, it was clear Ashley had gained weight.
Following her gaze, Ashley swallowed nervously and drew her posture inward slightly.
“If I were you,” Isabelle said calmly, taking a slow sip from her glass of water, “I’d stay out of sight and let him wonder. Wait until the time is right–then present a paternity test. No one could argue with that.”
“You came to me now because my calmness unsettles you. You don’t want me to be at peace, and you’re afraid this hasn’t shaken me or driven us apart. So you’re here to stir the pot. Am I right?”
Every word struck home.
Ashley was left speechless.
Isabelle was sharp–uncomfortably so.
But just days ago, hadn’t she been utterly distraught? Had that all been an act?
No, it hadn’t.
When Isabelle first heard the rumors, it had felt like swallowing glass. She hadn’t been able to maintain the composure she’d imagined–she’d even slapped Damian across the face.
Looking back now, her heart still ached with regret.
How hurt he must have been… He’d even knelt before her. Why hadn’t she been more rational, instead of letting her emotions take
over?
She should have trusted him more.
In that moment, Ashley’s mask completely fell away.
Isabelle couldn’t sit still any longer. She wanted to see Damian now.
As she rose to leave, Ashley grabbed her wrist.
“Is this proof enough for you?” Ashley held out her phone, displaying a photo of herself and Damian in bed together.
Isabelle’s hands clenched into fists instantly.

Her eyes reddened, glistening with unshed tears.
“Ashley, staking your own dignity ona gamble like this… It’s a truly low move,” Isabelle said, shaking off her grip.

Ashley’s hand fell away as if something had been torn from her. Her legs seemed to give out, and she sank back into the chair, her heart racing wildly.
Just as Wilbur had warned–Isabelle was no fool, and Damian wouldn’t be easily deceived either.
She had begged Wilbur to bring her here today just to confront Isabelle, to see what she needed to see.
And now, she finally understood.
“Still want to know more? I can help you.” If this still isn’t enough to make you walk away.
Wilbur was leaning against the doorframe, unnoticed until now.
Ashley stayed silent.
She just couldn’t accept it.
After everything that had happened between her and Damian, there seemed to be nothing left between them now.
With their relationship shattered, they might as well be strangers from here on out.
“Stay at my place for now. Damian already knows where you’re living.”
He wouldn’t directly throw her out, but he would make her life difficult–sending a few troublesome characters to loiter outside her apartment would be enough to unnerve her.
Ashley knew Damian wanted her to come to him, to confess everything willingly. Otherwise, things would only get worse.
The day her car was rear–ended, she had almost lost the baby.
That was what finally scared her enough to seek Wilbur’s help.
Otherwise, she might never have turned to him–a last resort when everything else had failed.
It hurt more than anything she had ever endured.
Isabelle left the sitting room and made her way back to where she had parted from Regina and the others earlier. They were no longer at the pavilion by the pond. Checking her phone, she saw a message saying they had moved to another courtyard where refreshments were being served.
After asking a passing maid for directions, Isabelle finally located the courtyard.
The estate consisted of several interconnected gardens and courtyards, and without guidance, it was easy to get lost wandering through them alone.
Following the maid’s instructions, she headed inward by herself.
Before she even arrived, she could hear the light, cheerful chatter of women from inside. Isabelle quickened her steps but accidentally bumped into a strikingly dressed woman at a turning in the path.

Oh–careful!” The woman quickly steadied Isabelle by the wrist.
Isabelle’s heart jumped into her throat, taking a moment to settle.
“I’m so sorry…” the woman apologized repeatedly.
“It’s alright…” Isabelle steadied herself, letting out a slow breath.
“Isabelle?” the woman murmured her name softly.
Only then did Isabelle focus, taking a proper look at the woman before her.

Lynn–they had never met, but Lynn recognized Isabelle from the photos of her and Damian that Lucas kept on his phone.
“Do I know you…?” Isabelle looked puzzled.
Lynn wasn’t sure how to feel about running into her. She had heard rumors about Damian’s involvement with Ashley overseas, though she didn’t know how much was true. Still, if Lucas was anything to go by, his friends probably weren’t much better.
