Chapter 341 Flames in the Night
Alone in the spacious CEO’s suite, she couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of isolation.

She could almost picture Damian standing by the window, holding a glass of whiskey, lost in a solitary haze under the moonlight- so detached, so desolate.
Just then, Diana called. Their conversation lasted a solid fikseen minutes.
When Isabelle stepped out into the main office area, she noticed a metal lighter on his desk, placed beside a freshly cleaned ashtray. A faint trace of tobacco still lingered in the air.
After a brief glance, she slipped the lighter into her pocket.
“Mrs. Cross…” Bruce trailed behind her, wanting to ask something but not quite daring.
“If you want to keep enjoying steak, you’d better keep that mouth shut,” Isabelle said curtly, her mood evidently still sour.
Bruce immediately sealed his lips.
Around eleven at night, Isabelle was already in bed, drifting into a deep sleep.
She simply didn’t have the energy to wait up for Damian.
On his way back from the mayor’s residence, Damian heard the distant wail of fire engines. He glanced casually out the car window but then quickly signaled the driver to pull over.
His eyes fixed on the firefighters at work–the building ablaze was Ashley’s design studio.
Since Ashley had left her job the previous year, her studio had gained some recognition. But ever since the Muddlehead account was exposed, it had faced constant setbacks. Its reputation had fluctuated, barely sustaining itself with little room for growth.
Over time, her respect for Muddlehead had slowly twisted into jealousy.
The person she once admired had turned out to be her greatest rival.
Ashley’s studio had recently been renovated, so the fire likely wasn’t due to faulty wiring. It was probably arson.
Damian let out a cold chuckle. “Drive.”
Served her right.
Ashley must have angered someone other than him.
“Mr. Cross, this…” Dylan, seated in the passenger seat, was reviewing documents.
Seeing Damian’s expression, he couldn’t help wondering if Damian had anything to do with it.
“I’m a law–abiding citizen,” Damian stated flatly.
“Right, of course…”
Dylan’s tone held a hint of skepticism.

Damian smiled faintly.
He must have done something to make those around him view him as a ruthless, cold–blooded figure.
Dylan didn’t know, but the last time Danian claimed to be a law–abiding citizen, Sean ended up dismantled.
The time before that, Celeste was sent to prison.
And the time before that, Gary went bankrupt.
This time, though, it didn’t seem like he was lying.
Damian returned to the familiar villa.
Isabelle was already asleep.
Everything there remained unchanged, as if he had stepped back into the way things used to be.
She still slept with one pillow under her head and another hugged tightly against her–his pillow, just like when they first began sharing a home. Nothing had shifted.
Damian sat gently on the edge of the bed, watching her intently.
His eyes held a soft, lingering tenderness as he gazed at her for a long, quiet while.
Perhaps from sleeping too long, she shifted onto her side, cradling her stomach. The pillow in her arms moved with her.
Her smooth hair cascaded across the pillow as she turned, a few strands still resting against her cheek.
She used to be a light sleeper, but at some point, Damian noticed she had become unusually peaceful when sleeping beside him.
It was as if Damian had become her anchor.
Carefully, he reached out and tucked the stray strands behind her ear.
Leaning down slightly, he kissed her cheek, his hand gently resting on her stomach where the pillow had been.
“Goodnight.”
He adjusted the comforter and stood to head toward the bathroom for a shower.
Just as he was about to leave, Brian called.
“Did you burn down Ashley’s studio?” Brian asked.
“Do you have nothing better to do?” Damian kept his voice low, careful not to wake the woman in bed.
“Just can’t think of anyone else who’d pull something like that.”
“Your impression of me really leaves much to be desired.” Damian stepped out onto the balcony.
“Not much to praise.”
Brian had handled plenty of matters for him, and something like the studio fire fell within a familiar pattern. He had assumed

Damian would simply let it end with a fire, never expecting someone else would target her.
Damian paused, his gaze drifting back to the figure lying in bed. He wanted to say something but held back.
“Do you need me to do anything?” Brian asked.
“No, let it be.”
“Just like that?” Brian was puzzled.
So the matter was really over?
Damian ended the call and went downstairs, summoning Bruce.

“So, where did you go and what did you do tonight?” Damian crossed his legs on the sofa, his scrutinizing gaze seeing right through Bruce’s guarded posture.
“I didn’t do anything,” Bruce mumbled, lips pressed tight.
“Did you take Mrs. Cross somewhere to stir up trouble?” Damian eyed his guilty expression.
Bruce lifted his head slightly, avoiding Damian’s eyes. “No.”
