Chapter 373 Facing the Family
Chapter 373 Facing the Family
“It’s nothing, just scraped my knees really not serious” It was just that Lucas had infected on carrying her
But that was fine–she didn’t feel like walking anyway. The scrapes were nasty, out not wheelchair tevet bad, though hurt.
“I’m glad to hear that,” the nurse smiled, carefully wheeling her inside. “The one who carried you down is he from the team? He’s really handsome. I saw him at the site yesterday. Did you get his number?”
Lynn frowned, forcing an awkward smile. “Want me to pass it along?”
Please take Lucas away–I’m done with him.
“Really?” The nurse glanced back excitedly.
“Of course. Good luck catching him,” Lynn said with a light laugh.
“Awesome!” the nurse grinned.
Lynn sat quietly in the wheelchair.
Gordon didn’t follow them in; instead, he stood to the side, clearly waiting for Lucas.
Lucas recognized the cue and walked over.
“Gordon,” Lucas said, glancing toward where Lynn had been taken. Lynn’s fine–just scraped her knees.”
“Lucas, what’s your game? You don’t want to marry Lynn, yet you pull a stunt like that—are you trying to stir up more drama for the Murphy family?”
Gordon had noticed when Lucas carried Lynn down–the move wasn’t exactly polished, or maybe he just wasn’t used to holding someone that way.
“I never said I didn’t want to,” Lucas replied.
He really hadn’t–hadn’t said anything at all, in fact.

It was the same when Lynn ended the engagement–he’d acted indifferent, never stating his position clearly.
Even when Lynn had tried to get closer earlier, he’d always kept his distance. He never outright said he didn’t like her or didn’t want to marry her, but everyone had read between the lines.
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” Gordon scoffed. “Do you think the Murphys have no one to stand up for her? That you can just marry her or not as you please? Lynn isn’t so desperate that no one else would want her.”
“I didn’t mean it like that, Gordon. Today, the reason I didn’t let her return with the main group was that her leg was pretty banged up. Besides, even if she wanted to call things off now, it’s too late for that,” Lucas said, a faint smile touching his lips.
“What do you mean by that?” Gordon asked, his expression hardening.
Had the two of them… slept together? You reckless kid!

“Exactly what it sounds like,” Lucas replied without further explanation.
Gordon was so angry his neatly trimmed mustache–seemed to bristle!
What did “exactly what it sounds like” even mean?

He wanted to demand answers right then, but they were at the hospital entrance–hardly the place–so he swallowed his frustration.
“No sense of propriety at all! No wonder Lynn ended the engagement!” He flicked hr sleeve, about to leave, when he spotted Damian stepping out of a car nearby.
“Gordon,” Damian greeted, holding Isabelle’s hand.
“Damian, you were there too?” Gordon looked surprised, his gaze dropping briefly to Damian’s legs. “You…”
One reckless move after another!
“This is my wife, Isabelle. I went to bring her home,” Damian cut in smoothly, glancing at the woman beside him. “This is Lynn’s father, the surgeon who treated my legs years ago.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Gordon,” Isabelle said warmly.
Gordon had seen plenty in his time–he could read exactly what Damian was doing.
He nodded and replied, “Hello.”
He’d heard a little about her.
Word was the injuries on Damian’s back came from making her angry and then getting an earful–or worse–from his own family.
Now he was finally meeting her in person–the woman was composed and gentle, with striking features that balanced softness and strength.
No wonder he got chewed out.
With a wife like this, if he made her mad and she left, who else would they blame but him?
Damian glanced at Lucas and said to Gordon, “The rescue transport was full, so we came back on the shuttle. Dr. Murphy’s leg was bothering her, and most of the passengers were injured. Good thing Lucas was there, or it might’ve taken much longer to get back.”
Since when did Damian start speaking up for Lucas?
Lucas was stubborn and thick–skulled—overbearing and rough around the edges. Gordon never expected him to treat Lynn well anyway. Maybe ending the engagement was for the best, to spare her the trouble.
“Is that so?” Gordon replied coolly.
He hadn’t seen any sign of that at all.
Lucas stayed silent.

“Isn’t she injured? Why are you just standing here? Shouldn’t you go in and get her checked?” Damian gave him a meaningful look.

tucit gave a slight nod. He wanted to check on Lynn anyway, so he said to Gordon, “I’ll head up now”

“No need. I’ll take you.” Gordon said I’ll examine her myself. Then he turned to Damian. “About what we discussed last time–wrap it up soon”
“Understood,” Damian replied, his expression skifting slightly as he nodded.
“We’ll head in now,” Lucas said to Isabelle.
“Alright,” Isabelle smiled, staying out of their conversation.
After they went inside, Isabelle glanced at Damian, who had suddenly gone quiet.
“What’s on your mind?”
