Chapter 659 The Forgotten File
Chapter 659 The Forgotten File
Daisy finished tying the tie, then straightened his shirt and suit jacket.
“I might be home late tonight,” Anthony said. “I’ll have someone send food over for you.”

Daisy shook her head. “No need. I’m going out too. If you’re not coming back, I’ll stay at my parents‘ place tonight.”
“I’ll come back. No matter how late,” He emphasized it.
“Oh.”
Daisy didn’t want to talk to him anymore. She was afraid that if she wasn’t careful, she’d start thinking Anthony actually liked her.
But that last line had sounded so sincere. She almost thought she’d misheard.
She reminded herself not to get the wrong idea. That would be awkward.
Anthony looked at her, then pulled her into a hug.
Daisy froze.
He didn’t say anything. When he let go, he pinched her cheek. Then his gaze dropped to her belly. He couldn’t help reaching out to touch it.
“Call me if you need anything.”
“Okay.” Her face felt hot.
Anthony left. Daisy leaned against the door, her hands pressed to her cheeks.
“What does he mean by that?” She wanted to curse.
Anthony arrived at the office. As he passed the front desk, he locked eyes with the receptionist, Lydia.
Lydia’s face lit up with rare joy.
Anthony didn’t seem to recognize her. He looked away and kept walking.
Lydia’s smile faltered.
The receptionist next to her asked, “Didn’t you say you knew Mr. Vale? Were you making that up?”
Lydia forced a laugh. “Of course not! He’s probably just in a hurry and didn’t want to bother me.”
A few months ago, she’d been a little rich woman throwing around tens of thousands of dollars. Then her son had needed surgery, and most of her savings were gone.
She had no choice but to find a job. She’d ended up here.

Anthony and Thomas stepped into the private elevator. Anthony’s voice was cold. “Did the front desk change staff?”
“Yes. Just in the past couple of days.” Thomas didn’t handle HR matters. Those were left to the people below him. He hadn’t known Lydia had started working here.
“Have her go to HR this afternoon. She’ll collect her pay. Pay her whatever compensation is required. won’t have her in my building.” Anthony’s face was grim.
Thomas nodded quickly. “Yes, sir.”
“If this happens again, you can cover her salary with your own.”
“Yes, sir.”
The boss was pissed. In all the years he’d worked for him, Thomas had never seen him like this.
After breakfast. Daisy changed her clothes and was about to leave when she noticed the folder on the shoe cabinet–the one Anthony had been holding this morning.
She picked it up. There was no writing on it. She was about to call him when her phone rang. It was Anthony.
“Ivy, are you still home?” His deep, velvety voice came through the line.
He’d been off all day. Forgetting things. And now he’d left an important file at home.
“I was just about to leave. I saw your file. You left it at home.”
“Are you free? Could you bring it to me?”
Daisy didn’t hesitate. She had a meeting today with the head of a newly acquired hotel, but she didn’t have to go. She just didn’t want to stay home. Staying home meant thinking about Anthony. He was taking over her mind.
And yet he had a good face. A good temper. He was gentle…
Daisy frowned. Was there anything about him that wasn’t good?
“Send me the address.”
Anthony sent her the location. It was the same hotel where Daisy’s meeting was. Perfect. On her way anyway.
Daisy had originally been waiting for a ride from her team, but she was afraid Anthony needed the file urgently. She took a cab instead.
When she got close, she called him.
Anthony was watching the planning department present a proposal. He spun a pen in his fingers, his eyes

on the projection screen–but his mind was somewhere else entirely.
“Mr. Vale,” Thomas said quietly.
No response. Anthony didn’t seem to hear.
Everyone in the room stared. Thomas cleared his throat and tried again.
“Mr. Vale?”
Anthony snapped out of it. He looked at them and said, “Approved.”

Thomas was embarrassed. He leaned in and whispered, “They haven’t finished presenting the proposal, sír. Ms. Clark is on the phone.”
The proposal hadn’t even gotten to the main point yet.
Anthony glanced at his phone, vibrating on the table. He picked it up quickly.
“Ivy… I’ll come down to get you.”
He hung up, stood, and walked straight out.
Murmurs broke out behind him.
“Who’s Ivy?”
“What’s going on with Mr. Vale? He’s been distracted for months. He didn’t come to the office at all, and now that he’s here, he’s completely out of it.”
“And he got rid of his scar. He looks so handsome now. I should have made a move sooner.”
Laughter echoed from the conference room.
They’d rarely seen Anthony before. They’d imagined the owner of Westperch Group to be a fat old man. Not this cold, striking figure.
