Chapter 705 Just as Damian Had Wished
Isabelle spoke up softly. “Don’t always be so hard on him.”

“If I go easy on him, he’ll get completely out of hand by tomorrow,” Damian huffed, clearly irritated. “That kid he hurt is still in the hospital, getting stitches. I’m already holding back from laying a hand on Harold.”
Harold had just transferred to this new school. On his very first day, he’d gotten into a fight and sent another student straight to the hospital.
Word had it that the other boy had picked on Harold, mocking him for getting expelled from his old school and having to transfer here.
Harold had initially chosen to ignore the taunts. But the boy grew bolder, trailing behind him nonstop with endless jeers, and the other classmates joined in to egg
him on.

Harold lost his temper, spun around, pinned the boy to the ground, and threw a punch.
By the end of the first day of school, Harold’s reckless reputation had spread all across Nevaske City.
Harvey was the top SAT scorer in the whole city. Harold also had decent grades, yet he’d already become the classic bad example everyone talked about.
Damian was worn out and at a loss over his behavior.

After Harold stormed outside, Damian sat down beside Isabelle.
“That little girl got picked up by her grandfather,” Damian said quietly. Word is she’s still in really poor spirits.”
Isabelle sipped her warm water and calmed her restless thoughts.

She looked genuinely sorrowful. “We should check in on her often. Help her if we can, and quietly look out for her even if we can’t do much.”
Damian shared the exact same thought and nodded in agreement.
Harold lingered just outside the door, eavesdropping. A heavy, uneasy feeling settled in his heart.
He and Harvey were among the few survivors from the earthquake–and so was that young girl.
None of them would have made it out alive if not for her.
She was only five or six years old, still pure and innocent.
She’d gone to the mall’s amusement area with her father and older brother when the earthquake hit, and their paths crossed by chance amid the chaos.
Harold and Harvey had been trapped under a claw machine, which was crushed further by a fallen slide. The girl’s father and brother worked together to lift the heavy wreckage, while she dragged them out to safety.

The moment they escaped, an aftershock collapsed the debris right back down, burying her father and brother underneath.
Harold held the frightened little girl tight and huddled with her in a corner. Harvey curled up beside them both, shielding them firmly with his body.
The girl was terrified out of her wits, her whole body trembling nonstop.
They hid inside that narrow triangular shelter for two full days before rescue workers finally found them
Tragically, her father’s body was unrecognizable when they pulled him from the rubble.
Her older brother was never found at all.
She stayed in the hospital for days afterward. Though physically unharmed, she’d been severely traumatized by the disaster.
Harold had wanted to visit her, but Damian refused to let him go. He feared seeing Harold would trigger painful memories and slow her recovery.
Instead, Harold and Harvey had snuck over secretly. They even dressed up in bear onesies to make her laugh by her hospital bed.
But nothing could lift the little girl’s spirits.

When Harold heard she’d left the hospital with her grandfather, he felt a bit of relief settle over him.
Damian frowned as he looked at Isabelle. “Did you have a dream again just now?” Lately, she’d been having constant nightmares and struggling to sleep through the night.

“Yeah.” Isabelle set down her water glass and met his eyes. “Grandpa came to me in the dream, bringing a little girl with him…”
Her words trailed off as a sudden thought crossed her mind. Her period was several days late.
Her sleep schedule had been all over the place lately. She’d been worrying nonstop over Harold and Harvey’s troubles and the fate of that young girl. She’d blamed the delay on all that stress–until now, she wasn’t so sure anymore.
Damian’s eyes widened in surprise. He quickly told the driver to head straight for the hospital.
Isabelle was pregnant again.
She held the medical report and looked over at Damian, “What if it’s another son?”
Damian smiled and brushed a hand over her hair, “Son or daughter, I’ll be happy either way–as long as it’s mine.”
Isabelle pushed his shoulder. “You’d better watch your words. What if it isn’t yours after all?”
“Alright, I’m sorry,” he smiled shamelessly. “I was just joking. Don’t take it seriously. Still, I’m really hoping

for a little girl. I’ve even already pictured all the cute braids I’ll put in her hair.”
“What if it’s another boy? Will you be disappointed?” she asked.

“It’s definitely going to be a girl,” Damian said, trying to comfort her–and himself, too. “Grandpa sent her to us in the dream. It has to be fate.”
Spring came the next year. On January eleventh, Isabelle gave birth to a baby girl, just as Damian had wished.
They named her Henrietta Cross.
“You finally got your little girl,” Isabelle said with a soft smile as she looked up at him.
Damian sat beside the hospital bed, gazing down at Henrietta in Isabelle’s arms. “Thank you.”
Harold and Harvey could only stand off to the side, watching quietly, Damian wouldn’t let them get close to the newborn. Even when Regina held Henrietta for a moment, Damian quickly took her back into his
own arms.
“You two are ridiculous,” Harold muttered. “I’m already thirteen, and you’re out here having another baby just for fun.” He’d never liked small children; they were always loud and noisy.
Harvey smiled calmly.
Damian shot Harold a sharp glare. “I’m in a good mood today, so I’m letting that comment slide.”
Harold clamped his mouth shut at once, though he was displeased.
You’re overjoyed, but Mom’s the one going through all the hardship.

Regina sat nearby and gently stroked Isabelle’s cold hand. “If he still wants more kids after this, I’ll book him a trip abroad and send him off alone. He can have as many babies as he wants over there by himself. We won’t stop him at all.”
Harold nodded firmly in full agreement.
Damian could only sigh, feeling as if everyone was blaming him for wanting another child.
This is supposed to be a happy day.
Isabelle couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Regina, that’s actually a perfect idea.”
When Harold reached college age, he was specially recruited into the military.
Damian had never originally planned to send him off to serve. But Harold had such a hot–headed, impulsive temper. He needed the strict discipline of military life to calm him down. Otherwise, Damian knew he’d end up having to discipline Harold harshly one day if his reckless attitude stayed unchanged.
