Chapter 818 Hospital Visit
He looked just like a little kid refusing to take his cough syrup.
“Even a cheap bourbon goes down easier than this,” he muttered flatly.
He’d only had two drinks–he wasn’t drunk. He just liked watching Claudia fuss over him.
Honestly, drinking that honey lemon water was asking too much.
“You still shouldn’t drink so much,” Claudia reminded him.
“Yeah, yeah.”
Harold took the mug from her hands, closed his eyes, and gulped it down in one go..
“Ugh…” He grimaced.
“You okay?” Claudia studied his face.
“Fine.” He grabbed a napkin off the coffee table and wiped his mouth.

Satisfied, Claudia carried the mug back to the kitchen. On the way, she sneaked a sip of what was left at the bottom.
“Eugh-” A full–body shiver ran through her.
That was awful…
She couldn’t tell if honey lemon water was supposed to taste like that, or if she’d messed up the recipe.
That stuff could sober up anyone, no matter how far gone they were.
Harold caught her little taste–test from the couch and couldn’t help but smirk.
Claudia came out of the kitchen and headed to the bathroom, returning with a warm, damp washcloth.
“I’ll shower when I get home,” Harold said, catching her wrist before she could start.
“They say you shouldn’t shower when you’ve been drinking,”
“Then you can just sit here and watch,” he replied, almost courteously.
Claudia ignored him. She began wiping his face, then his neck…
When he realized she wasn’t paying him any mind, a slow smile spread across his face as he watched her move around him.
Claudia worked her way down his arms, then his back.
As she reached his chest, he reached up and ruffled her hair.

Claudia didn’t think much of it–Harold tended to pat her head whenever he had nothing better to do.
“Alright, that’s enough…” Harold caught her wrist, took the cloth from her hand, and pulled her onto his lap.
The soft, sweet scent of her shampoo mixed with the faint whiskey on his breath.
“Did I not make it clear, or can’t you tell what I’m craving?” Harold’s hand settled on her waist, giving it a slight squeeze.
Claudia’s face flushed bright red at his question.
Harold didn’t wait for an answer. He scooped her up in both arms and carried her toward the bedroom.
He didn’t even flick on the light–just stepped inside and shut the door behind them.
“Harold, you’re drunk,” Claudia whimpered softly. “You’re holding me too tight.”
“Sorry…”
The next morning.
When Harold woke, he kissed her cheek. “Sweetheart, I’ve got some things to take care of. I’ll be back soon. I’ll drive you to the studio this afternoon.”
Claudia couldn’t bring herself to get up, but she heard him clearly. “Okay…”
A moment later, he leaned close to her ear and whispered, “Sweetheart… do you like Harold?”
“Mmm… yes,” she mumbled sleepily.
Claudia couldn’t remember when Harold finally left.
It wasn’t until she woke up properly that she replayed his morning question–and her own drowsy answer -in her head.
She got up and put on the clothes Harold had laid out for her
Then she checked her phone and finally saw the text Katrina had sent late last night.
“Chelsea’s brother picked her up. She’s home safe.”
Claudia let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding.
Harold headed to the hospital.
Lowell had just finished checking on Keith when he saw Harold walk into the room.

Lowell frowned. Spencer had sent a video of Harold and Claudia getting close last night to the group chat. and everyone had lost their minds.
Now here he was, visiting his ex. As if he didn’t have enough trouble already.
“Harold…”
Keith quickly straightened up in bed.
Harold had deleted her last night–she hadn’t been able to send her usual goodnight text. She hadn’t slept a wink.
She knew he was angry.
Part of her had assumed Harold would do what he always did: ignore her, no matter how dramatic she acted.
But this time was different. This time involved Zander. She’d crossed a line.
Lowell caught the cold look in Harold’s eyes and quietly stepped out with the nurse, closing the door behind him.
The air in the hospital room turned icy.
A cold sweat traced Keith’s spine, but she kept her expression calm.
Harold had never really paid her any attention–not once. Today was the first time, and it felt like this.
It was a beginning, but it also felt like an ending.
Harold didn’t acknowledge Keith’s greeting. His eyes swept the room before he brushed a bit of lint off the visitor’s couch and sat down. Then his gaze locked onto her.
“Harold, I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t have taken Zander riding…”
“You’ve done a lot of things you should be sorry for,” Harold said, his voice even.
Keith pressed her lips together. She wanted to say more, but the words stuck in her throat.
Harold just sat there on the couch, looking down at her from across the room. He didn’t speak—he waited for her to break the silence.
Keith didn’t understand. “Why did you come today…?”
“Can’t you tell?” Harold watched her, then slowly stood up and slid his hands into his pockets beside her bed.
“Harold, I don’t know what you mean,” Keith forced a weak smile.
“Is that so?”
