Chapter 822 Caught

Robin was taken aback by her remark. He mumbled under his breath, “Who in their right mind would even think about messing with you…”
With a slight pout, he grabbed his brush and walked off.
After afternoon classes wrapped up, Harold hadn’t arrived yet.
Claudia decided to send him a quick text. She wanted to swing by the toy store next door to pick up a few things.
Last time they’d passed it, Zander had mentioned wanting a pinwheel–one of those simple spinning toys on a stick.
He was probably about to get back from his little outing with Damian and Isabelle anyway.
The night before, Claudia had seen a clip of Zander in the family group chat.
In the video, he was holding the phone, his small face filling the screen with the bright blue sky and ocean behind him. Damian was caught trying to sneak a kiss on Isabelle’s cheek, and she playfully shoved him
away.
Zander narrated, “Grandpa and Grandma are on a date and kissing. Daddy says not to tell anyone.”
The whole thing was adorable and unintentionally funny.
Zander had captured that moment completely by chance.
Claudia realized she was growing genuinely fond of that family.
She bought the pinwheel along with a couple of other small toys and started making her way back toward the studio.
The studio sat near the edge of town, right beside an old courtyard surrounded by historic houses. Every brick and weathered roof tile showed its age.
An old school campus was nearby as well.
On her walk back, Claudia noticed a few young guys loitering by the wall of the old campus, smoking. As she passed, one of them whistled loudly.
She ignored it at first, but then one of them stepped directly into her path, blocking her way.
“Hey there, gorgeous. Where you headed? Let me get your number.”
Claudia glanced at the cigarette in his hand, frowned, and didn’t reply. She simply stepped around him and kept walking.
But after just a couple of steps, he grabbed her arm and pulled her back. “Hey, I’m talking to you!”

Without hesitation, Claudia turned and slapped him hard across the face.
The other guys froze for a second, then dropped their cigarettes and started moving toward her.
What followed was a series of yelps and shouts echoing through the narrow street.

A minute later, Claudia picked up the toys she’d set down, dusted off her hands, and continued calmly toward the studio.
Behind her, the guys groaned in pain.
“That was way too harsh…”
“You owe us extra for that…”
They muttered as they struggled back to their feet.
Robin, who had been hiding nearby and watching the whole scene, quickly ducked behind a corner. He was about to make a run for it when Claudia called out, “Robin! Stop right there!”
“I’m dead,” Robin muttered through gritted teeth. He slowed to a halt and turned around, forcing an awkward grin. “Ms. Bowman…”
Seeing the panic in his eyes, Claudia reached out and twisted his ear.
“Ow! Ow! Ms. Bowman, let go–that hurts!” Robin grabbed her wrist with both hands, trying to ease the
pressure.
“Only someone as clueless as you could come up with a stunt this dumb!” She released her grip.
“Ouch…” Robin rubbed his now bright–red ear.
“Start talking. What was that supposed to be?” Claudia demanded, her temper flaring.
Robin ducked his head nervously. “What do you mean, Ms. Bowman…?”
Before he could finish, Claudia grabbed his other ear. “Talk. Now.”
Earlier, after dealing with those guys, she’d spotted Robin hiding off to the side, signaling to them the whole time.
If this wasn’t his doing, then whose was it?
“Okay, okay, I’ll talk…”
Robin covered his other ear. Now both were flushed red.
Claudia was boiling with anger. She’d let previous incidents slide, and now he was pulling something like
this.
“Ms. Bowman, I like you.”

For a moment, Claudia wondered if she’d misheard something monumental.

“It’s true! Ms. Bowman, I like you. You’re really pretty!” Robin said, his tone shameless. “What I did just now was wrong…”
He’d only wanted to hire some local troublemakers to hassle Claudia so he could swoop in and play the hero. He never expected the guys he’d hired to get taken down so effortlessly by her.
After the incident with Jaden, Claudia had gotten pretty sharp at handling these kinds of situations.
“How immature!”
She couldn’t be bothered dealing with Robin any longer. She shot him a dismissive look and walked past him.
Robin hurried after her. “Ms. Bowman, I’m serious!”
“My husband wouldn’t appreciate this.”
Just the mention of her husband made Robin’s scalp prickle.
“You want me to say more? Or should I have my husband come down here and give you a lesson?” Claudia couldn’t help but find the situation a little absurd.
“I’m not asking for anything in return. Liking you is my own business. It has nothing to do with you.”
Claudia felt both annoyed and amused. “Robin, how old are you? I’m way older than you. Plus, I have a husband and a kid. Is this really worth it? Just leave me alone…”
“I told you, it has nothing to do with you. But my feelings for you–they’re real…”
Before Robin could finish, a sharp voice cut through from nearby.
“Robin!”
Both of them turned at the same time.
Randall was there. His car was parked just a few feet away.
They’d been so wrapped up in their conversation that neither had noticed Randall sitting inside.
The moment Randall overheard Robin confessing his feelings for Claudia, his temper spiked.
“You can explain this to your uncle yourself,” Claudia said flatly, glancing toward Randall before walking
away.
